My Crx has been sitting for 4 years... and I want it back !!!
Hey guys, Im a Crx lover at heart, dont get me wrong. But my 88 Si has been sitting for 4 years this coming winter and I think Im finally ready to put it back on the road. Theres a few catches though.

In its glory day it was a fully built d16a6 forged motor boosted @ 16-20psi, well after many speeding tickets and the fact that it was stolen, I couldnt afford to drive the car anymore insurance wise, so it sat, and sat, and sat at my grandparents until now, when Im almost 25 and my insurance has plummetted back to an affordable level, have some money saved up and a steady flow coming in.
Basically the car needs a huge overhaul and I dont know where to start.
Im looking for some experienced help, when it was stolen they simply cut my zdyne edu right off the factory harness, so I had to splice all of the ecu wires, and well, I dont trust that now, and didnt trust it then. I think I may need a full car rewire, or maybe they make an aftermarket harness to simply run a honda motor (whichever I decide) in any car?? Is that possible??
It still has the boosted D16 sitting in its engine bay but I think Id like to try a motor swap, possibly even boost again.
What Im concerned about mainly is wiring, say I wanted to remove the factory D16 and its wiring, would the wiring for the engine and ecu all come out together, and the car wiper electrical, sunroof electrical, all the guages etc be alright?? Or are they all mixed together?? Cause what Id like to do is simply buy/build a new engine and engine management combo and put them in.
Id appreciate any constructive words or help or links. I hope to ask a lot of questions in this thread instead of making many single stupid threads.I am planning to HOPEFULLY do this entire project over the course of this coming winter and be driving it come spring 2011.

the engine harness just unclips from the side that goes to the ecu its all tied in u can solder the wires to the cut ones just use shielded wire for the dizzy cause i spliced a obd 1 plug onto my 90 integra and it worked fine its less headach than putting a new chassis harness in
where does it unclip?? they cut my ecu off like 3" from the end ecu plug, so I would LOOOOOOOOOOOVE to have that section replaced with new wire if it does unclip anywhere
Nothing else connects to ecu except wiring harness that goes to the engine. one to the fuel injectors, ignition, battery and the rest to the sensors(or gauges) . sunroof, and your accessories will be fine. just make sure when you buy the motor, make sure it comes with the right ecu and works.
But like its an easily replaced part?? I just want to make the harness "new" instead of using the spliced one I have, and am not sure how to go about that or where it disconnects, I dont have my car around me at the moment I think I may end up sticking with the D16 motor as I have so many specific parts for it
I really only need to replace te opart 1" from the ecu tot he ecu plug
thanks so far!!

From the ECU it has 3 sockets. Each socket corresponds to a set of ****. The chassis harness is the **** coming from the ecu - to the firewall. From the Firewall it clips into the engine harness
so basically in text format illustration here we go:
there's sockets that plug into the ecu on one end and on the other they plug into the sockets from the engine, both sets plug in together @ the firewall.

You will either need to live with the repaired harness or get another one from the same year and model car as yours is.
Your engine harness disconects beside the under hood fusebox on one side and on the other side at the strut tower but that should not be affected.
What they cut if I am reading your post right is the chassis harness beside the ECU and
wires run from there to the fusebox under the dash and gauges and also out to the engine harness plugs.
So basically you can't just replace the ECU plugs by unpluging something and pluging in a new one.

It seems like you do not want to mess with your wiring harness and that is that is ok then you should give the guys at rywire a call. They can make you a custom harness for whichever motor you want in your car.
my crx sat for years as well from the previous owner....dont forget to use a fuel treatment and change the fuel filter and possibly clean out the gastank to prevent fuel problems from sitting....sorry I'm not that much help with wiring though, lol
oh yea...new plugs and air filter are always good as well. (u probably new that, lol).

Glad someone stepped in with some knowledge lol, yes thats what happened, they basically just cut my ecu out of my car!!! probably wouldve even taken less time to cimply unclip it lol
I did get them all back together and working, but Im just not happy with 100 spliced connections that close to my ecu... nor do I want to rely on them remaining perfectly connected
as long as you solder heat shrink and electrical tape you should be fine none of the wires at the ecu are high voltage wire as long as they are going to the right corresponding wire you dont have anything to worry about ive done this before. my friend bough a ef with a dohc zc in it and whoever did the mpfi did it right then unhooked it and did it wrong to another plug and used all kinds of jank wiring to put it back together so what i did was find another std hatch and cut the ecu harness off at all the same length about 3 or 4 inches up and cuz the plugs off so all the wires were the same length that way its all nice and clean not janky looking garbage, or take it to a performance shop and have them do it changing the car harness is not fun
