Default Helmet clearence issues with roof in '06 RSX

I finally got my RSX out to an autocross and found that my current helmet isn't going to cut it.

I'm using a Bell M2 series helmet, and had no problems with it in my '95 civic or '02 WRX, both with stock seats.

But in my RSX it hits the roof and hinders turning my head when I am sitting normally in the car. I have to lay the seat back a bit to give me clearance and then I'm leaning too far back to be functioning positioned.

Has anyone else run into this issue?
Not like I'm a giant, 5'11".

My only options I've come up with is shop around and see if I can find a thinner helmet.

Thoughts?

Lower your seat.

You could get a seat that actually sits you lower(thinner cushion).

I've considered that, but it'll be a last resort. My main option is to find a thinner helmet, was wondering if anyone had suggestions for where to start on brands with thinner yet still safe helmets.

hmmmm shorter seat or thinner helmet protecting my head from destruction.... I would take out ALLLLLLLL 4 bolts to the seat , take it out , buy a cheap racing seat on CL or ebay. or if you really are a true enthusiast save up and buy a real seat.

not allways that easy though . but thats my 2 cents.

I don't know if this is legal for all autocross classes either.

Unfortunately, I don't know that many legal helmets will be "thinner". You could cut down the butt cushion foam in the seat, I know lots of people who do that.

Are the requirements for your autox group that the helmet be DOT certified? If so, you MIGHT be able to get away with one of those goofy Harley helmets that are more like skullcaps. They are certainly thinner, but also certainly provide almost NO safety.

this happens because the rsx is a stupid car. u need to get a bucket seat so u can sit lower. maybe even with low rails. good luck. side-note. i do own a ep3 and along side the rsx they both suck.

Lower the seat if classing doesn't prevent it. I had the same issue in my DC5 ITR even with the Recaros that sit lower compared to the, I ended up getting a lower seat rail before my first circuit outing.

They have to fall within certain Snell ratings.

Are any of the Snell-M helmets like the one I described? I know the SAx won't be.

That was a good suggestion.
I've been looking around but I haven't found any yet that I felt safe enough to trust incase of a mishap. But I haven't had time to give it a real in depth search so I'll be looking around some more this weekend.

Oct 23-24 are AX Regionals in Blythville, AR and I'll be there. Plan to ask around and get some looks at various helmets.

If you ever decide to get some racing seats, I have some Sparco RSX seat bases (driver and pass.) that you can have for very cheap.

I had them in my (since sold) RSX for a brief time. PM me if interested. If nothing else, buy them just to have.

thought of taking out the headliner?

no denting of the roof, gain 2 inches of headroom, keep a safe helmet, and don't have to buy a new seat.

plus, you can't tell from the outside the liner is removed, so you don't have to worry about looking like a beater car...

yes, i had to do this in my Scirocco. and it is a non sunroof car. made a huge difference...
