Icon6 Temp Guage Fail

Hey guys, Im new here. Ive been lurking in the background trying to pick up the "culture" and now its time to tap your combined knowledge!
So Ive got a 91 CRX Si thats still running the D16. When I first bought the car everything minus the Tach worked. After a day or so, I noticed the Temp gauge went south on me. (Background, I let my wife drive it, and shes not exactly smooth on the clutch...) I figured something got shaken loose, but everything seems solid in the cluster. I repaired the Thermotime sensor on the block since the male end of the connector was in terrible shape, but that still didnt fix it. Im assuming the gauge it self works since it moves slightly when the ignition is turned to "on".

Give me any pointers on where to look next?

Do you have continuity to ground and the cluster?

check the coolant temp sensor? maybe the plug is a little messed up or corroded? its right under the distributor, with one male spade type plug....i think. pretty sure thats the sending unit for the gauge.

That would be a good place to start. Im assuming the ground is fine, since the Fuel gauge and Speedo work, but you know what they say about assuming.

Truth be told, car electrical isnt my strong suit and this cars wiring harness is all kinds of hacked up and spliced. I'll check the ground and see what that brings up. Thanks for the idea!

I spliced in a junkyard find plug, though I didnt change the sensor itself. The original plug was dirty and didnt "click" in properly so I was hoping that was the issue.

Actually, you just made me re-consult my manual which just pointed out my error! I replaced the plug on the thermosensor which is next to but not the temp gauge sending unit! Sometimes a little criticism does help! Now I'm off to check into that plug! Thanks!! :-)
