Default b16 hydro conversion...

here's the deal, I picked up an 89 with a b18b1, with s1 cable tranny. I want to put a hydro in it, I have a b16 hydro tranny already, (same short d@mn gears), do I need to get a different intermediate shaft, or can I use the one that came off the DA? I do realize if I have to change the i-shaft, will have to replace atleast one of the axles (atleast have it rebuilt with a female end)

I have done a lil bit of digging, it sounds like I can, but before I either waste the cash, or waste the week waiting on a part to show up, I would like to know definitively, what do I need to do...

not that anyone will really care at this point, the plan is to convert the chassis itself to hydro and be rid of the cables, yeah, I'll have to drill 3 or 4 holes, but I'm just much more comfortable with the "set it and forget it" maintenance on the hydros. thanks for the help guys

Compare the drivers side splines on the b16 trans with the splines from your intermediate shaft they should be the same.

Just curious, what condition is the ys1 trans your takin out in? And do you have plans for it already? Sellin it what? I might be interested in it....the synchros in mine are almost gone and I just put a 12 lb flywheel and stge 3 clutch in it and I'm looking for a good trans.

ok, cool, I'm fairly sure they are, since I read somewhere just to throw on some teggy axles with si hubs.

the trans is far from good, guy I bought it from said he pulled case off to see what was causing small grind in all gears, saw nothing, then it wouldn't go into 4th, I drove it around 200 miles like that, now it kicks outta 3 and 5 also. it will need a lot of work, only bright spot is that it does have the lsd option, just haven't decided if I'm gonna put that in the b16 case or not. I'll PM you the rest of the details, just to help keep the thread on track and not get someone's feelings hurt bc a "trial" is selling stuff...
