Default Help me out here... potential EF owner!

I am looking to buy an EF hatch, and I want a mostly stock example. My plan is to make it a starter track car for myself, so I can get experience. Reason I chose the Civic is simple, its cheap, and its light. Now, I LOVE the EF's, but I know I am goin to want suspension upgrades. Been eying some coilovers, which is easy for me to figure out, but who the heck makes the other parts?? Looking for spherical bearings (thought I found it today, but can't find it again), also does anyone make wider fenders for the EF?

I guess I am not terribly familiar with the EF aftermarket, and I am afraid that when I reach a certain point, the aftermarket support will disappear.

Next, I would like to stay away from FI if I could, just so I could stay in the more Novice classes for a while. Is the lil D series going to be able to carry me around a track!? I am going to try to get the car close to 2200lbs, if not lighter, so I don't need a WHOLE lot of power. I was looking for some internals, and all I can find for the D series are low comp pistons, anyone make high comp?? I love the D, its just so cheap to build, and so simple, I am just afraid I won't be able to make power without an engine swap.

I would appreciate if some of y'all wouldn't mind helping me out!

Thanks!
MK

bump...if you're going to rely on a d series to pull you around a track you're going to want to mini me swap it at the very least, as for the fenders you can always roll them yourself and there is a big market for ef products still

Thank you for the reply! I saw the mini-me swap, too. I am not sure what direction I would go, its a budget build, just to get me on the road course and get some experience.

Well, that would be beautiful then! I have the knowledge on HOW to do all of this, its just knowing WHAT to do thats catching me up.

Also, I thought I saw that hard race made some spherical bushings, so I checked out hteir site, and I don't see anything for the EF. Thats a MUST for me, as this will be a road course oriented car.

So far I see Koni's or coilovers in the future, a full barrage of bushings, and massive weight reduction, along with homemade chassis stiffening, and seam welding (if i ever get a TIG).

i have bought a ef hatch of a buddy at work and he was tellin me it weighed 1700 with a b16a and driver

these things are light!

d series arent gonna see substantial power without some kind of forced induction
but i personally wanna stick with natural aspiration
where im gettin at wit this is u asked about high comp pistons
the d16a1 dome pistons outta an integra(i forget which yrs i wanna say 86 or 87) will shoot a mini me up to a good 12:1 cr
*this is from what ive read i havent tried it yet*

but i say go for the ef!

Thank you sir! Just what I was looking for. I want something ridiculously light. Its free to take stuff out, and not cheap to make power.

if youre looking for a high compression setup youll want pg7 pr p29 pistons out of the 1st generation integra, Which has the d16a1 or Dohc Zc. On a stock d16a6 it will increase the comp ratio to around 10.7:1. Add a vtec head and youll be makin 12:1 compression. I personally would stay away from the vtec head and just build the stock head.

as far as shocks go you can't go wrong with tokico blues, or in my opinion for cheap priced coilovers d2 racing is a great company

What spherical bearings you talking about? You talking replacing every bushing with one? I know blox make them for the trailing arm, and some companies have them inside their lower control arms. Idk about the rest though.
For shocks/coilovers many people like the koni/ground control combo. Me personally I'm going with pic coilovers. I guess it all depends on budget though.

Also, im doubting that "1700 lb with b16 and driver". Maybe if its a fully cut up and lexan'd car. Theyre light, but theyre not that light.

Why would you stay away from the Vtec head? I am ideally looking for about 12:1 compression, since I will be looking to do an all motor build.

Talking about control arms and trailing arms, mainly, then hard rubber for everything else I can get my hands on.

And yeah 1700 is a little far fetched. I don't think my 2200 lbs with driver would be too far off base (I'm just a lil guy!).

How much are the pic coilovers? Thats not something I really want to cheap out on, since I know a good set of coilovers could mean winning or losing, plus I want reliability of a proven brand. I want rebuildable coils, so if I need to, I can.

Thank you all for the replies, I really appreciate the help with getting me familiarized!

thats just what the guy told me im not 100% sure how true that is but the car is completely gutted and pushing it around the shop(has no motor) is almost effortless its just seats and dashboard i mean my ej1 stock is 2300 lbs(from what ive read cold be wrong) and this thing is smaller than that

either way its a light car, beautiful and i say buy it!
