Can't turn crank by hand...help
Ok, i am installing new timing belt. when i try to get tdc, the crank wont move at all. im really lost on this one. usually on my civic, i can just use a rachet and tunr it. is there something that im missing on the h that does or doesnt allow the crank to turn? please help
lol...smartass'! but no, im just installing it on a new build. the motor is in the car already, with trans connected. its in neutral and still cant move. and i think im using a lot of "strenght" and with breaker bar and still cant move it in either direction.

that happened 2 me 2 awhile back with a b-series build but it turned out 2 b the fact that i never adjusted the valves so yea idk if this will help but yea jus shooting it out there.
yeah the spark plugs are out. i haven't adjusted the vavles or even touched the head since it came back from the shop. i will put oil in each cylinder and see what that does. i tried spinning the flywheel from the starter hole, and it wont move either. ill do the oil trick and adjust the valves and see what happens. thanks all
You can try this to see if it breaks it loose.
Put the starter back in the engine, and wire up your starter and jump the starter solenoid and see it it spins than.
If it is rust, it should break free from that. one month build of rust. IDK. Ive gotten engines that have been sitting outside for more than a year, and they still turn over.

OP if you cannot find anything obvious that is keeping it from spinning then you may want to remove the head and try spinning it then.
Uuuuuuh, yeah thats a bad idea. if indeeed the valves are out of spec or something else is binding up, doing this will cause damage. The crank should turn freely by hand otherwise something is wrong.

WTF, your stupid. If the engine was on it would have a negative effect. And Id agree, but not to just see if he can break the cranks hold. **** it takes 1 second to see if the flywheel will turn with the starter. No need to remove the head.
Id like to drive my prelude up your ***.
wow honda tech is going to ****.... not many helpful tips in here.
there are a few things you need to do, i am assuming that this a freshly built motor seeing as how you said im installing it on a new build. so you need to take a few precautions to insure that you dont damage anything.
first things first take the cams out, this takes next to no time to do and when doing this it allows the valves to seat into the head to where you dont have to worry about piston to valve contact. then try to turn the motor over.
if you are not able to spin the motor over by hand with the spark plugs out and the trans in neutral there is a problem and you need to inspect further.
if this becomes the case please check back with further info and we can help you further.

OP it sounds like you are having some mechanical clearance issues, what are the specs on the motor? You mentioned it was a new build.
The kid can't even turn the engine over by hand and you suggest to try to crank it over with the starter, and you're calling someone else stupid? You need to be able to turn the engine by hand to properly set time (unless you pit it together blindly and everything magically lined up at TDC) and also to properly tension the belt. These are things you do BEFORE you ever EVER try to start the car using the starter. The starter spins at 400rpm typically and has a ton of torque, your hand is much more controlled.

Its not going to damage anything. 400 rpm's per minute which is about 6 and half spins per second. And just to tap the solenoid with a positive wire would be less than 2 spins at most. Which wont do jack **** really.
Wont do anything im not telling im to sit there and crank over the car for 4 minutes. Now the taking of the cams off is a good idea.
Im not telling the OP to do that. Im just throwing ideas at him. He can do whatever he pleases. But to tap the starter to see if it budges or "breaks" free is something that I have done in the past with locked motors. Has had no harm the head.

Anyone who is saying it's a timing problem didn't read. He can't put it in time because he can not rotate it to TDC to set the timing period.
