Alright so as promised here is my first official edited HD film that I have evaaaarrrr made! This I can tell will be a start to something awesome that I will work towards getting better at just as I did with my photography. I'm sure many of you remember my first shoots I posted wayyy back now, and where I've come too now. I would expect this process of video making will be similar.
There is much I would like too improve on all the way through the process from shooting too post process but you gotta start somewhere.
This video was initially created for a class assignment I had for English class as part of my Graphic Design program. All we had to do was write a 1000 word essay, but I found that a tad bit boring and cliche. I decided to write this monologue/documentary on my car. The topic of the assignment was too take an inanimate object or thing in your life that means virtually nothing to anyone else but everything too you, and too explain that so thats why you hear all the dubbed audio. Slightly corny, but I mean everything I wrote in the video.
Anyways I'll let you guys be the judge. For some reason i find the compression of the video got a lot worst once I through it on Vimeo, and I have the plus+ account and all that so I'll have to figure out why that is.
C&C welcome for sure as always!!!

If anyone knows how to embed vimeo videos please PM me, but I haven't seen it done yet.
P.S. Also on my Vimeo account you will find a little teaser of the Nashville Import Alliance video from a couple months back that I never had time to get around to. That video was PURELY for fun, and really is just kind of a thing for the guys who were part of the trip, to relive a bit of the night we left.
Thanks for your time guys!

Honest reply:
It was pretty slow, not enough shots of the car moving made it feel like a 7m slideshow. Also the fact that the majority of the shots were exterior shots I felt like I had seen the same shot lots of different times.

some notes:
- opening shot is way too long. either shorten it or add credits. Give a visual other than a garage door opening
- get rid of the vignetting. for photos, it's ok. for video, looks amateurish (which it is).
- Get a tripod with a fluid head. the pan of the civic near the pier was choppy.
- some directors have a style that involves keeping the camera moving. I don't particular care for this style.
- each shot should be telling something more to the story.
- edge to edge clarity. your lenses are jacked or you intentionally made the edges blurry. Don't.
- if doing slow-motion, don't shoot in 24fps, 25fps, or 30fps. shoot at a higher rate (ie. 60) and scale down. the slow motion will be much much smoother.
- your photos look great, and have good composition, continue that in video. Composition is just as important in film-making as it is in photos.
- finally, take an editing/film class if you want to improve.
overall, i'd give ya a C for the video.

Yeh like I stated in the write-up before the video stabilization was the biggest issue that I had. More time and more practice I'm sure will improve the overall video.
Thanks for the suggestions.

The audio of you talking was low on my computer. The vignetting didn't bother me too much, I see videos with it all the time. I think maybe more editing with some more effects will make the vignetting feel more at home (Take this with a grain of salt as I do minimal editing). Just curious what did you use to shoot the video?

Ahhh Ic, well thanks man, I definitely did not spend nearly enough time as I needed on this. Like I had mentioned the assignment was just too write up a 1000 word essay and so I only had 48 hours too shoot and edit the film.

Quick question, would you say Final Cut Pro is better & more fluid than Sony Vegas HD?

I used to use vegas for like video game montages when I was a kid and have never worked with HD footage through it so i'de be a bad judge of that, but I hve heard nothing but STELLAR stuff about Final Cut Pro 7, I just used ghetto iMovie for this video.
Final Cut Pro 7 retails for like 1000$ so I may just try out Final Cut Express 4 HD. We'll see, if i hear about more info i'll let you know.
Don't get me wrong about Vegas though, it's a great program I just personally haven't used it for this kind of editing yet. I have a copy of Vegas 7, I should try it.
