93 Del Sol: Questions about swapping D16 and manual tranny from 97 Del Sol
Hi I have a 93 Delsol EG model it is AUTOMATIC an it is a D15 engine. I am about to swap a D16 and MANUAL transmission in to it the engine is out of a 97 Delsol EK model.
My questions are.
Will i have to splice anything?
Will everything bolt right up?
Will I be able to use the same shifter tubes as the 97 Delsol?
What all will i need other then the clutch reserve , master cyl for the clutch, pedal assembly , an clutch lines.
my buddy kept every thing he needed for his swap to a b series.
Any information will be greatly appreciated i will be doing the swap over this sunday an monday so any replys before sunday will be much appreciated as well thank you for the future info you my give an wish me luck lol first swap.

you need the linkage oh and btw since i love del sols so much i have to correct you, del sols are eg, all year models, ek's are the type r model body style 96-00 hatch, you need the ecu for the d16 and you have to modifiy some wires for you to take the key out of the ignition and for reverse lights but cant remember which since its been years since i converted mine to a 5-spd
yeah well ive done the conversion and yes if you dont get the wiring done you wont be able to take key out of the ignition
Ok well the ek engine won't work because the eg engine that was in the automatic car does not have a crank positioning sensor an the ek engine manual tranny does but the car does not have the plug so I am wanting to know if I can take the automatic transmission off of my d15 engine and put the 5spd transmission off the d16 on to the d15

Ok thank you for answering umm lol if I get lossed I will upload pics lol this is my first time ever doing a swap of anykind lol I already have the trans off the d16 just gotta get the trans off the d15 an put the clutch on an put it in the d15 my only issue is figureing out how to take the automatic shifter out of the car its is weird looking
lol thanks for the confidence B20 lol the worst thing about it is that the bolts underneath the car holding the auto shifter on are rust horribly lol so im prolly just going to cut them with a hand grinder an a wafer disc lol.
How would I go about converting my obd1 ecu so I can use it on my obd2 engine an making it think the crank positioning sensor is there
so wut your saying is that I can use the d16 engine an 5spd swap that has a crank positioning sensor with my obd1 ecu an I won't have to do anything to my ecu the only thing I don't knoe if it will work because my obd1 ecu is from an automatic would it still work.
You'll have to do the conversion shown above to keep the ECU for throwing automatic transmission codes, but it has nothing to do with the CKF sensor, the ECU just flat out wont look for it.
you will also need and auto to manual swap mount fot the top trans mount as the mount that is welded to the fram rail is in a different location on an auto car. you can either cut the mount off your car and weld the manual style mount off a stick car to your fram rail or you can buy a conversion mount the is offset to allow the trans to bolt in to the auto frame mount

i think i have that mount already. Ok Lets say i am going to put the OBD2 D16 engine an 5 spd trans in which have a crank positioning sensor. you said that i could just convert my obd1 ecu to manual an it will also not look for the crank sensor. Right? Would i just be able to get a Manual OBD1 ecu would that work the same. I sort of feel stupid asking that but it is my first time swapping so i dont want to mess anything up lol. I dont see why that wouldnt work but i want to know before i spend 50 dollars lol.
You can just as easily do that as well. Btw, which engine is going in? If its a D16Y7 you'll need to reuse your old intake manifold, exhaust manifold. If its either a Y8 or a Y7 you'll also have to keep your old distributor and alternator.
it is a D16y7 so I have to reuse my D15 Intake manifold an exhaust manifold an the distrutor an altenator so im good now all i gotta do is take my wiring harness off my D15 an put it on my D16 I have to splice my injector plugs an i have couple others cause they dont fit the D16. An then the worst has yet to come I have yet to cut the automatic shifter bolts offunder the car they are rusted out the wazuu lol.

welp i have the automatic shifter an shifter linkage out had to use the air grinder on it lol. I have switched the whole Intake manifold along with the fuel rail an injectors attached to it i have also tswapped out the exhaust manifold i put the the clutch pedal in the master cylinder for the clutch , the clutch reserve. Now all i gotta do is put the the clutch lines in an put the hoses were they go on the engine cause i cant remember lol i have to get a lower front mount as well cuz the rubber is broke in mine. I gotta go an get the obd1 manual ecu still. If any body could post a picture of were the hoses are supposed to go on this swap of the intake mani hoses that would be a great help.
My supposed best friend blew me off who is the one who knows about cars he helped me get the engine out of the car an said he would show me what i had to do yet he hasnt been back since 2 weeks ago so I am the only one that is working on this car an i hvae no idea what to do. So any help an any compare pics of the clutch lines an compare pics of the intake mani hoses would be a great help an be greatly appreciated. To everyone that has been helping me I want to thank for what Info you have given me youve been a big help Thanks guys it is almost done thanks to you guys.
