Everyone says they are cheap but i have yet to find one any cheaper then a b18 or any other b series. Its surfacerust only so itd be easy to sandout fill it and repaint. Everyone who says wouldnt. Why not?
I wouldn't trade! You know the history of your car and you know that its good and clean. You never know what the car your trading for has been through. In my experience most people are trading/getting rid their cars for a reason... and its normally not a good one.
You can find deals on b16's almost everywhere. My friend got a complete b16a2 swap out a 99 si 75k for $750. Absolutly noithing wrong with it and the orginal owner.
Not every honda is beat on, its just the stupid kids who get them, mommy and daddy pay to swap them and they get raped all day.
9-10's out of 10 someone on this site is going to want a car they, 1 know the history of, 2, know it wasnt put man handled by some dip **** 16 yr old.
Do you know the histoy of the engine? does the owner? Can he prove it isnt stolen? Was the swap done correctly? Are you sure the rust is only on the surface? You'd be surpised how many cars ive seen with rust that looked only on the surface. Pulled it apart, and half of the QP was rusting out on the inside.
Dont get all excited to trade for a car, just becasue it pulls harder then yours.

I'd keep the car you have. I'd rather have a stock car than a car that's been modified and possibly screwed up or beat on. Unknown modification history. That is, noobies screwing with a car and maybe not doing everything perfect. Do you know the car's not screwed up?
Oh, and not all Hondas are beat on. I know I take very good care of mine.

its mostly what your opinion is. if i had a clean 97 dx, id trade it for a beat up 95 hatch even if it didnt have the b16a. few things to look into
has is car ever been wrecked/salvage title?
did he do the swap himself?
if so, does he know what he's doing?
if youre good at bondo/prep/paint, why not get the swapped hatch and put some time into fixin her up?

I wouldnt do it. I've been through the good, the bad, and the worst. The best decision you can make is to stick with what you got. doing body work sucks if your just trying to make the car look as good as the one you just traded. and then on top of that, a good, working engine already in your car that you know is reliable and you know what work was done to it already > some jenky *** wired swap as far as you know with a fcuked up qp...
seriously, you'll thank me later. I've been in this exact situation with trading a clean ek for a sketchy eg hatch...

I checked the car outtoday. Looks legit all the wirings good engine runs healthy all new suspension new tires i talked to previous owners even my buddy randomly knows the car from the city and knows it legit. Im in a huge pickle here! Clean title maybe ill try and get a carfax on it if i can
I would say if you can see the leaks, and you KNOW WITH OUT A DOUBT that you can fix the said problems, then go for it, if not, i'd say stick with what you have
imo if your looking for cheap go b20 and eventually vtec, i wouldn't trade because you have a clean hatch and if you do the swap yourself not only will it be your own work but you will never have to try and identify parts or what's been done to it
clean 97 DX Hatchback civic with no flaws is way harder to find than a b16a2 swap my friend. think about how much $$$ ur gonna spend just trying to bring it back to clean status? if i were you i would turbo that d16y8 to 8lbs if u blow it up or get bored you could always use the turbo kit on the swap just change the exhaust manifold something to think about...& i speak from experience i havent had a N/A civic since i went boost on my white EK coupe i sold & it was extra clean brings up the re-sale value to have a non-bondo car...
I drove the car tonight everything about it is legit got papers and all rust was surface only nothing major. I might go with the trade. And i have a ek coupe.
