Will a Millermattic 140 be enough ?
I'm thinking of buying a millermattic 140 mig welder if it's not big enought the 180 should be but for money reasons i'de rather get the 140. I want to weld minor things maybe a little exhaust work. I have a 3inch Thermal Stainless steel exhaust that need some flanges or o2 bungs welding to it will it be enough ? It will be used for oil pan welding for my turbo return line ? valve cover welding ? and make my own Intercooler piping eaither SS with a spool gun i may try to do it in aluminum acording to there website there minimum for aluminum is the same size as what i will be welding (1.2mm) What wont the 140 be able to handle. (I'm NEW to welding)
Get the largest welder that you can actually afford. Do you have a 230 outlet or just a regular 110 wall outlet? I have the Millermatic 140 and wish that I had saved up for something a bit larger. It works well for exhaust and other thin wall stuff like bodywork. but It becomes a pain trying to get a weld on thicker metal. Prepwork becomes very important for the thicker stuff if you want it to hold. I would say anything from 20guage to 1/8 you should be fine with the 140.
Well i'm in Electrician so adding a 230 volt plug is not a problem. So if i get a bigger for like the 180 ill have an easer time doing things like my return line for my turbo (an fitting in my oil pan) or valve cover welding.
