RSX - Stereo Serial *changed*?
Hello everyone, first post on honda-tech. I found this board because I somewhat extensively did an internet search to try to find an answer but couldn't, and it led me here.
I have a 2003 RSX Type-S.
I'll try to make this short. The other day, I turned off the ignition, and as usual, I used the fob to lock the car after I got out. It didn't seem to do anything, so I though, "Hmm, that's strange!". So I manually opened the door, put the key in the ignition and turned; the power and everything came on like it should have.
I noticed that the stereo had mysteriously reset (flashing clock, tried to power it on but got the "LOCK" readout). I didn't want to fool with it since it was late at night so I shut the door and locked the car with the fob - it worked fine like it usually does.
So today I go out and try to enter my code which I know is correct - it's on the card, it's the original stereo, I've had to re-enter before when I got a new battery. I got the "ERRx" code. Tried it two more times, same thing. Then I did the 1 & 6 trick just in CASE the serial number was different. IT WAS.
I went to https://radio-navicode.honda.com/ and confirmed the code that is for the stereo; it checked out OK. I tried with the same info just different, new and vastly different serial number, I got a different stereo code (as expected), tried it, and VIOLA, it unlocked it.
How in the world does the stereo serial change?
The only other info I can offer, and this is a whole different thing, is that the last few weeks I've had weird things happen with the car's power. I.e. things will almost flicker off then back on, and I've actually had everything (including ignition since it's tied to power) shut down and had to restart it. When this happens, I can restart the car just fine, and I never have a problem starting the car during any time of the day, different temperatures, etc. The automatic driver window button will work for a day or two, then not work for a day or two in a row.
I *have* had everything tested at an ASE shop that I trust very much in that I know they didn't swap out the factory stereo for some weird reason or anything like that. They said the computer, battery, and electrical systems tested OK. It also is a relatively new battery and the connections seem to be very good to it. Should I take this to an auto shop that maybe specializes in power issues? I do NOT want to take it to the dealer due to the overcharging and who knows what they'll try to tell me is wrong and what I need to get fixed.
Thanks very much,
-Stu
