Default ATTN:honda wiring gods need help

i picked up my new race project a 89si rex so i can leave my 90 rex base DD alone lol
its gonna be a full on deag car, gonna start with the cage and lexan this week,BUT...i want most if not all of the stock harness gone!
all i need is one corner light and one tail/brake light to be legal at the track.
id like to get like a moroso switch panel and have it wired to power the pcm start the car, fans, and lights...
so im pretty good with the wiring part...but i need to know, where the drivers side shock tower is and the engine harness plug is at,their is more wiring heading to the fron of the car..is any of that NEEDED to make the car run?
and im also confused with the alt and charging system? id like to do away with the factory fuse boxes,,but keep the engine haness in tact can someone help me out here?? a pm would be great so we can talk further,THANKS

So, an alternator and charging system confuse you, you can't figure out how to determine what wiring is needed to simply run the engine and power on a light or two, and yet you're going to build a "full on" drag car? Mkay

to add insult to injury, you also state that you are "pretty good with the wiring part" yet you ask about the car's wiring harnesses......?

In all seriousness, IIRC, all of the wires that go to the front of the car are for the fan(s), bumper lights, headlights, a/c pressure switch, etc. You've also got the horn wiring up there. There isn't anything I can recall that extends beyond the engine harness that is necessary to run the engine.

I know this isn't really "help", but really, once you get in there and look around, it's easy to determine what goes where and what it does. It's kind of hard to tell you off-hand through text what wire does what, etc.

not to be an ahole, but seriously are you for real? if you are confused on a charging system for a single 12v battery and alternator then you are not going to be educated enough to set up the wiring for a drag car, let alone suspension, build and or tune the engine (if you even bother to tune it). there is a crap load that goes into buildinga drag car, not to mention staying in line with the rule and tech specs for the class you are going to run in.

if you are already on honda tech asking about wiring requirements to make whatever engine you plan to put in the car run, your in over you head and dont understand the concept of researching.

as for the answers to your question, get a manual for that cars electrical wiring and study it. you just need the wiring for the lights you need, then strip the cars interior, remove the dash and trace where the wires go and eliminate them.

as for the wiring for the engine, you need all of it. it connects to the fuel injectors, the injector resistor box, the radiator fan, the engine temp sensor, the intake air temp sensor, the throttle position sensor, the manifold absolute pressure sensor, the oil pressure sensor, the idle air control vale and the electronic air control valve, and of course the distributor.

if your running a vtec engine, then you have knock sensors, cam sensors, crank sensors, butterfly wiring for the b or h series motors..

you have a lot of learning ahead of you if you plan to do this. the reason you got **** for your post is because you wrote like you dont know wtf your doing. when someone on this board sees a post from someone that shows they dont know what their talking about after they say they are pretty good with the subject they need help with, it makes us think your a retard.

im willing to help you, but you have to come to me and know something to start. dont expect someone to hand you the answers for everything and let you take all the credit.

im not gonna start a post war here i have better things to do,like work on my car...im 31 years old and have had several drag cars that i have built<motor, trans and wiring> on my own,,from a 12 sec monte carlo to a saturn on spray,so please dont question my abilities, and assume im a 16 year old kid dreaming here..one of my questions was answered, and im well aware of how a 12 volt charging system works..my question was meant to be if i remove everything but the engine harness will the alt charge the battery?some cars have voltage regulators hidden in the harness that if removed will not allow the battery to charge properly

DASH REMOVED...BUT WILL GO BACK ON...REMOVED HEATER CORE,AC EVAP,DUCT WORK,LIGHT AND WIPER SWITCH FROM COLUMN...BASCIALLY EVERYTHING THAT WASNT NEEDED TO MAKE IT GO DOWN THE TRACK...I WILL BE REINSTALLING THE DASH ITSELF,AFTER THE WINDSHEILD COMES OUT AND GETS REPLACED WITH LEXAN.......sorry for the caps iwas copying from another site didnt want to retype everything

if youve wired things before than just take a look and see what goes where. seeing as youve been doing this awhile. pretty sure you need the fuse box. it powers more than just the radio and dash lights... try tucking the engine bay fuse box in the cabin. just an idea

thats a good idea! thanks im gonna try that, just ordered a switch panel..ive allready lost a ton of un-needed wiring..but i think im just gonna leave the under dash fuse panel intact...wire ign, starter, and lights from their to switch panel and leave the factory harness going to the pcm,i was never planning or did i mention doing anything to the actual engine harness like someone thought i did

i appologize for coming off the wrong way, but without knowing your backround, it did sound like a 16 year old wrote the original post.

i agree with keeping a fuse box of some sort. it will save sensors from frying if you have a voltage spike for whatever reason.

as for the voltage regulator, i believe it is build into the alternator.

as for the engine wiring comment, you posted this ".but i need to know, where the drivers side shock tower is and the engine harness plug is at,their is more wiring heading to the fron of the car..is any of that NEEDED to make the car run?"

that is why i thought you were talking about the engine harness.

once again, sorry for coming off the wrong way. however, next time a little backround info would prevent that since there are so many people on this forum and one cant be expected to know everyone lol.

If you want to run just a panel and make it a full on drag car I say F the factory Harness. Check out Painless Performance wiring. Normally I wouldnt bring up that company on this site since it'd be more geared towards people doing they're own complete wiring systems (although not complicated ones, it DOES require some knowledge about how to do your own wiring/ set up) Also for the charging system, if you really do some research you won't have to worry about that either. Simply rob the peices you need and incorporate them or somehow fab up a bracket for a 1 wire. All the charging issues will be negated!
