Suspension HELP! Blown Struts? Or... ?
So here's the deal: Today I had planned to raise my car back to stock height in order to pass state inspection tomorrow, only to be dissapointed! Me and my friend (who works at pep boys) replaced the cut springs that had come on the car when I purchased it with OEM springs, but the car's height remained the same... as if it still had cut springs? He tells me it's because my struts are blown... but my father who's also a mechanic is telling me that it should've still raised up whether the struts are blown or not. What do you guys think the problem is?! All feedback is appreciated and I apologize if this is a "noob" question, it's my first car. Thanks!
Struts blown or not should not really affect height. Springs hold it up and set height, dampers only dampen. Height is also affected by perch height, or coil over adjustment, but you do not seem to have adjustable.
How did you manage to replace the springs and not see if the struts are bad...Either way, it shouldnt really affect the ride height even if they are blown.
Honestly the struts looked fine to me! I just didn't understand why it had the same ride height with CUT SPRINGS and OEM SPRINGS.. made no sense to me! My best bet is that he somehow installed them wrong? And now when I drive my car, it's bouncier and it pulls me to the right... with the cut springs it did NOT do this whatsoever! Do you guys have any idea what he did wrong?
