Just bought '91 EF with tons of mods...
But I know almost nothing about this car or what it has please help. I bought it off of a guy who's also on this forum he has the build up posted:
https://honda-tech.com/forums/honda-crx-ef-civic-1988-1991-3/my-northwest-ef-build-2796605/
On my way home after picking it up last night it over heated and when I opened the radiator cap it was bone dry...
Also I noticed it was leaking oil because it was splashing over the hood this morning I added more oil to it and it was coming straight out the drain hole in the oil pan BECAUSE THERE'S NO BOLT THERE!
I guess the bolt worked itself loose towards the end of my trip to my house (it was a 4 hour drive) but I've never heard of that happening
So my new sweet honda is currently not driveable and I havn't even owned it for 24 hours
If anyone is in the Coos Bay, Oregon area and wants to enlighten me on what the hell I just bought please help me out
I was so excited for this car and it's already disappointing me

Well the sad part is buying other peoples project cars or builds you NEVER know what you're going to be getting into. The only advice I can give you is go over EVERYTHING of importance before actually trying to get it onto the road. Do all the basics just so you have a reference of when they were done (fluid changes ect.) Don't just assume someone did everything right, cause the sad part (especially in the Honda game) it's a bunch of kids who think they know what they're doing and think they are true gearheads and mechanics where most the time they're doing WAY to in depth of work with simply forum posts as guides on what to do.
I wouldn't say you don't exactly know what you're getting into. I mean, you've got a relatively in-depth build thread about the car. Most "other person's project cars" have no accompanying build thread.
Anyway, sucks about the oil pan bolt. Although, oil pan bolts don't just "work themselves loose". That's totally on the previous owner either out of sheer stupidity or an honest mistake/ignorance. With that custom oil pan though, I guess it's feasible it worked itself loose as there's no telling what kind of hardware was used.
Also, not to "blame" you - but knowing you had a road trip home, you probably should have checked the fluid levels first.
Still a sweet EF. Get an oil pan bolt back on there, fill the radiator back up with coolant once it cools down and then bleed it and check for coolant leaks.

hmmm.... it is always good to at least have someone with you who knows about cars and can spot issues. Sorry to hear you are having issues.... Find a buddy near by and have him help you assess your situation. First off... make sure the car has fluids before anything.

Agreed. It's the quickest way to tell if the owner actually took care of the car in question... that and pulling the spark plugs will give you a good idea on the running condition of the motor.
