Hello fellas i just bought a 2001 Honda Civic EX 5 speed. Current mods are DC C.A.R.B legal header, C.A.R.B legal AEM Short Ram, front and rear (Strut Tower?) braces and black Konig Heliums. I want to add a little more power without making the car any louder or causing it to not pass smog. do you guys have any suggestions?

What is the average horsepower gain from a cam and tune?

 

in case you didn't know. you should go to the dealers and ask them to fix your airbags. they did a recall a while back.

 

a Crower stage 1 cam will do a little for power.

What's the deal with that airbag thing, I bout my car brand new in 2001, wouldn't they contact me if I needed it recalled?

just putting in a new cam(s) and a tune isnt going to do a whole lot. if your going to do cams, I suggest doing springs, retainers, valves.

 

I know there is different cam setups that allow you to use stock springs and valves for my Mustang it should be the same for the Civic right? The Civic is a single cam VTEC btw.

 

Sure you can just do the cam and not replace the springs and valves, but you mine as well upgrade them also.

If you read correctly, these D17A2 won't produce much power unless you boost or K-swap.

I think upgrading the cams/intake/exhaust/header/D16Y8 intake manifold/K-Pro is the best you'll get for decent gains w/ a nice sound and it will be a good DD.

 

Put a wing on it. Adds about 15 hp... hahah jk. A cam shaft is the way to go.

 

How hard is it to do a "smog legal" motor swap?
Excuse my ignorance but how much better is a K swap then a B18 swap?
I had a B18 Integra in high school and i thought it hauled *** lol

 

It's going to be hard to "Legally Smog" a car with K-Pro + engine mods. Assuming you live in California, it will be a bitch to get it smog, unless you know some people.

Depends which K series you are talking about.

But Honestly, I think any K-series will be a better swap than any B (aside from the B18CR/5), Unless you are planning to build something for the track.

I've always preferred, K20/24 (K24A# bottom with a K20A/2 head) with something that has LSD as the transmission).

I/H/E with stage 1 cam on stock ECU = 125 whp, could be higher if you get Kpro.

 

the airbag recall was only for the passenger side...i got a letter in the mail frm Honda

 

Don't get cam's or any valvetrain part's just stay OEM and enjoy the reliability. If you want a faster car buy something else or spend the $ on a turbo kit (i recommend the first choice!)
