anytime someone does physical labor for you its good to tip them. i got a paintjob at sheib and tipped them before it was started and asked them to take extra care of my car. and i feel that they did cause my car looked really nice for like 6 years...

yeah people might tell you not to tip cause theyve never herd of it... but in my book any hard labor or good service deserves a tip good enough for atleast a burger and a drink

it depends on the ppl i kno if i was to be tipped to do something i would do a better job depending on the amount of the tip. Other ppl could just be like hey extra cash and still do a shitty job.

with macco paints jobs myself i have never had one but from what i hear is that they do a SHITTY job doing prep work. With bad prep work you get a bad paint job. So if you do the prep your self just do a very good job then you SHOULD get a good paint job.

lol i wouldn't even consider letting do a paint job....looks absolutely terrible

overspray EVERYWHERE and if you get their cheapest paint job.....the paint will look like mash potatoes with little to no gloss.....

maaco for the f'ing loss

things to keep in mind to clear up some common misconceptions about Maaco.

1. "Doing your own prep work will make it nicer"
-truth: Only if you know how to prep a car better than the guy that does it 40 hrs a week. chances are, if you've never done it, it wont be as good as them unless you have somebody holding your hand the whole time.

2. "Maaco paint jobs always suck"
-truth: Maaco has a few paint options, if you get the cheapest one you are getting minimal prep and very very old school paint. Alkyd enamel to be exact. Basically the same paint that you get out of a rattle can, except its concentrated/meant to be reduced and sprayed out of a real paint gun. These jobs will suck no matter what, they have virtually no UV protection, no chemical resistance, poor gloss hold-out (quick to oxidize/haze). Their higher end paint jobs are a modern basecoat clearcoat system and it's very adequate.
Biggest thing to keep in mind is ITS NOT THE SAME GUY THAT PAINTS THE CARS AT EVERY MAACO. Unlike McDonalds where every burger from Alaska to Florida tastes the same, every painter produces a different product ranging from terrible to excellent. Scope out the parking lot to see completed jobs to see if the painter is worth a damn. Look for: heavy texture/orange peal, drips, runs, sags, dry spray, missing spots like under wheel arches etc.

My best advice: wash your car very well, take off: bumpers, headlights, taillights, emblems, mirrors, handles, windshield trim, etc. the more you take apart the nicer it will be. wet sand with a soft foam block with 600 grit over the WHOLE car. Go back and get the hard to get areas with a gray scotch brite pad wet with 3m scuff stuff paste. wash again, circle any dings you want fixed, then drop your car off. Don't tip them, cause you'd only be tipping one guy when it's probably 6-7 people working in the shop. Bring two pizzas at 11:45 am.

if you worked in a shop would you be more inclined to do a good job on a POS car that somebody is spending the minimum amount of time and money to paint, or for a guy who obviously is going the extra mile to prep his own ride and being cool enough to bring a pizza?

I believe it's their own brand of paint, but I've heard rumors of them using Nason. I think it just depends on the location since they are a franchise. so yeah, either way similar comparable to Omni or Nason.
