1993 honda Civic.

How do I bleed the clutch fluid? I think I know where the bleeder valve is, but I`m not positive. I was told that I needed to have a vacuum to suck out the fluid. Is this true? Or can I just crack the bleeder valve and then pump the clutch while a friend adds new fluid? Dot 3 right? Would I notice a difference between Dot 4 vs Dot 3?

PS 320k miles and still has the original clutch.

 

the bleeder is a little nipple jutting off the transmission it will near your exhaust mani. you dont need a vacuum source just someone to pump. use the same fluid as you do for your brakes.

 

Hey man. Bleeding the clutch is super easy.

You will need the following:

-A container or cup to catch the fluid.
-Brake fluid
-A friend to pump the clutch.
-A wrench to crack the bleeder valve open, 8mm or 10mm. I forget.

1.Tell your friend to sit in the drivers seat.
2.Take out the clutch reservoir cap.
3. Get your wrench and twist the bleeder valve counter-clockwise (righty tighty, lefty loosie) just enough so that it doesn't take a lot of force to twist it.
4. Hold the container with your right hand in front of the valve and loosen the valve to open and tell your friend to step on the clutch all the way down.(Not too fast or it will go all over the place)
5.Once he steps on it fully and fluid has came out, tighten the valve.
6.Tell him to release the clutch.
7. Tell him to step on the clutch and then open the valve, then close the valve when fluid is out. Pretty much keep doing it again and repeat as many times necessary until you can see the new fluid coming out.

-Note: After you've removed fluid like 5 times, check the reservoir and add brake fluid till max. Its going to keep going down as you bleed it. The idea is to take out all the old fluid until youre at the point where you only have new fluid in.

Good luck and be careful not to get it on paint, it will bubble paint if you let it sit on there for a while.
