Default '91 DX died on freeway >_<

Another problem again =(

Driving up the 5 and the car dies in LA off Main. Was cruising 70'ish before i lost power. Pulled off the freeway and tried to start it up, but nothing. Waited about 15 mins and tried again and it started up. Pressed the gas and it decided to put-put so i exited and now the car won't start normally.

I say normally cause the car will start if i hold the ignition on III and i can drive it, but im not in a position to burn out and replace my starter haha. Once i let go of the key to let it fall to II it dies.

I dont remember if any lights are supposed to go on while its on II, but no dash lights come up. Radio works, but wont work while on III... assuming a voltage issue with starters yada yada

Any ideas as to what could be failing? Things i should check? I wanna say ignition, but I really don't wanna replace it without making sure and checking the difficulty of the job.

Also i do wanna say that i -thought- i smelled smoke when i was on the freeway, but it could be the other cars, the beautiful LA air, houses or me dreaming it since it was at 12am... but would/could the ignition throwing a nice smell simply cause the car to die while on the freeway? -shrugs-

Anyways, thanks guys! This place is always my first search when trying to diagnose just about any Honda i come across aha
