Yes, the D16Z6 is an interference engine. As far as I'm aware, all US D-series engines are interference designs.

An interference engine is an engine that is designed in such a way that the pistons and valves inhabit the same space at alternating times.

An engine is either an interference type or a non-interference type. It's not one at one time and the other at another time.

hmmm, not sure. About 7 years ago, i was hauling back in my 91 Civic Si (D16A1), i through my timing belt going...oh i hate to say it about 110mph

Anyway, broke down, had it towed to Honda, threw on another timing belt and drove away!! That engine made great power for what it was

Still doesn't mean it wasn't an interference engine.

Interference doesn't mean it will wreck the engine if the belt snaps. It just means it can.

Learned something new today... I always thought all engines were interference regardless.

yes i am pretty sure all D series are interference motors. i learned the hard way when i had my D15b7 and the owner that i bought it from a while back goofed up the timing and was wondering why there was a loud ticking/ slapping noise. he bent almost all the valves

As of right now mine isn't with the vitara pistons sitting lower in the block and being dished that is until I throw a bigger lift cam in it lol 2 years ago my engine jumped time 2 teeth on my cam, granted it ran like a sh*tpile but still ran and nothing hit,I've since disassambled the engine for overbore vitaras and head, pistons, valves were completely intact and unharmed

I'm sure that stock dseries are all interference motors though
