06 Accord EX V6 Locking itself automatically
So our 06 Accord EX V6 has started having an issue where it locks itself. If you unlock it, just a few minutes later it will lock itself back. Now it doesn't seem to do it if you are inside of it driving it, only if you are outside of the car and unlock it with the remote, then a few minutes later it will lock back. Sometimes just a few seconds. Any idea's what's going on here?

The car assume you did it by mistake and it's trying to lookout for you.
The car will not re-lock if you open one of the doors within 30 seconds. It will also not re-lock if you unlock it using the key.
This is done so that the car will remain locked for the long term in case the unlock button inadvertently gets pressed while the remote is in your pocket, purse, etc.

It's a great feature if you unlock it, get sidetracked and walk away from your vehicle forgetting to lock it. Which obviously happens a lot....!
I do kind of wish it was a bit longer. There are times, you unlock your car. And started to talk to someone. "Hey...Catch you later...How about next week? No...Not good for me...Tuesday...Ok. See you then... Cool..." Pull on your door handle. Locked. WTF. Pull on door handle again.
Step back. Unlock. Now you kind of look like a fool.

I wish it would wait at least a full minute. I unlock the doors, open the trunk to load up, and have to unlock the doors again. Sometimes, I will unlock the door, open the driver's door, then load the trunk. Not a big deal, but it should last longer IMO.
Honda has been inconsistent about how all this works. On the Accord, I can pop the trunk open without unlocking the car. On the Odyssey, I have to unlock before I open the hatch.
One might say, there is a difference between the truck and hatch in terms of security. But one can pull the release for the seatbacks to enter. So..

Wow, I've never noticed this before until recently. So it's seriously a built in safety feature? I wondered why I sometimes I would get in and it wouldn't lock back up, but sometimes I'd unlock it from upstairs, go downstairs to the garage and it would be locked before I got there. Is there a way to disable this?
I can't believe I didn't notice it for the first 4 years I've had the car. I just recently noticed it.

Like everyone mentioned - it is a safety feature. How much inconvenience does it cause you? If you like your car to be unlocked at all times. Just don't lock it after you park it in the garage.

New user. I registered just so I can ask this question.
How do you disable this "feature" (and the one that makes it refuse to lock the car if there is a door open)?
In all my years of owning cars with remote keyless entry, I have never once accidentally unlocked one. But with the accord, I have cursed this feature countless times. You unlock the car for the kids. If they don't race right over and get in (that'll be the day), the damn thing locks itself. Happened again today. I left my jacket in the back seat. I unlocked the car, and handed the keys to my wife (house key is on that ring). Went out to bring in the trash cans, came back to a locked car. AAAARGH!
Oh, and that other lovely feature. It's raining. You get out of the car. The kids take their usual sweet time. You stand there in the rain, because you can't lock the car until they close the door. We have taken to locking the doors from the drivers switch to get around this - thus defeating the value of having the remote.
Dear Honda, all I ask of the key fob is to unlock when I say unlock, and lock when I say lock. I want a key fob, not a nanny. I'm a big boy, I can make these decisions for myself.
Is there ANY WAY to disable this incredibly annoying feature? I have sworn not to buy another Honda if it behaves like this.

1. Autolock - I don't beleive you can disable that. My guess would be if you were to install some aftermarket alarm (or remote) so it'll unlock/lock on your command. Not what the car thinks you would really want. A remote (without an alarm) should be rather cheap.
2. Not locking until all the doors are closed? What year is your Honda? On my 10 Accord, and 09 Odyssey, you can press the remote to lock, while the car door is still open. However, once the last door is closed, the car will lock. I never tried that with my 06 Accord or earlier. So Honda did address that since.

I joined just to say that I have a 2011 Accord that does the same thing. And it is the stupidest thing I have ever seen or experienced on a car.
It's one thing to make a feature available for the owner to use or not as he or she pleases, but to make something like this automatic is just plain idiotic.
If I wanted a electronic nanny I would move to a communist state.
