well ive been tinkering around and trying to figure out where the hell my strange popping noise is coming from. ive officially ruled out anything suspension wise. ball joints, tie rods, end links all check out and are good to go. unfortunately while i was under the car scratching my head trying to figure out what it could possible be i grabbed the axel and shook it side to side. no play, thats good. then...i shook it up and down. oh boy. its loose as hell!! my passenger side has a LOT of play in it. ugh. the driver side is pretty tight. what the heck is wrong? is the axle bad or what? my bro says its either the intermediate shaft(or something else under there, forgot the name) or the axle is bad? please help!! i need to get this fixed quick before the problem progresses. and i dont want to spend any money until i figure this out 100%

does it do it when you drive normally and all the time or just when you get on it?

 

ALL the time. everytime i hit a bump in the road i can hear it, i guess you can say knock or pop. even if i hit a dime. i dont think it is the axle cuz it doesnt vibrate or anything. it doesnt matter if im turning or how fast im going, i hit a bump, it make a bump noise. lmao. i need this fixed ASAP before anything else goes wrong. please help!!!

 

any humming? any axle grease on the shaft? tire rod isnt loose?

 

no humming, no grease that i have seen, and the tire rod is as tight as it will get.

if i have the car jacked up and get under it, and grab the axle where it goes into that box type thing(bro says its called an intermediate shaft) and shake it up and down it has a lot of play. so whatever the box is or whatever on the inside, a bearing or what not, is toast. i just need to kno what it is

 

the cv joint probably broke a union.
