Just gutted my CRX and i realized........
....that taking out all that plastic in the interior doesn't amount to much. The only way i can take out weight is if i take out all the tar and carpeting in the front seat. I also would like to take out the A/C but i'm not knowledgable enough to do so. What part of the A/C weighs the most and is easy to take out, maybe i will take out just the easy and heavy part, if that is possible.
The compressor and all the metal lines.....accumulator too......I wouldn't gut the interior personally you'll lose maybe 20lbs. and lose a lot more comfortability.
If you do a search there was a bunch of people talking about this and they ALL said that they didn't like thier daliy driven, gutted cars. It just makes the inside of the car WAY to loud. Plus you really don't strip out enough wieght to make it worth the trouble.
I think if you get a good manual you can remove your A/C. Its always easier taken stuff out then putten it back.

I only recommend gutting the interrior if you plan on taking it to another step, 20 pounds is 20 pounds, it will all add up at the end. If you do not take the AC out, lighter compenents, then gutting the interrior is useless.
yea and its soo much more quiter with the interior in... i drove around for 8 months with no door panels, interior, carpet, etc... and everybody was like damn thats tight... but the sounds and road noises geting very annoying...
take out the ac! i forget the number of pounds you save but there's a lot of advantages. first get the lines discharged by a service station (or do it yourself if no one is looking....this is controversial but if they want me to save the environment then draining it shouldnt cost me $50! isnt that why battery recycling is free now a days???). then all you do is remove it piece by piece. the comressor bolts on the engine block and that weighs quite a bit.but my favorite part is the condensor (the thing in front of your radiator). removing this not only saves wieght but also keeps your radiator a lot cooler by increasing air flow. i highly recommend removing the ac as long as you dont plan on wanting it in the future.
Well i took out more than 20 lbs. I would expect i took out at least 70 lbs or maybe more, it's just hard to tell cause i took it out piece by piece. The heaviest stuff i took out was the floor mats if you can believe that. I really don't mind the road noise but after taking out the braking handle cover, i realized it gets real hot their. I was wondering if i strip the entire carpet, what other parts of my car will be really hot. Anyone know?
The way i see it now is that any weight i can take off is free HP, cause it will make me go faster. Their is no other FREE way of going faster than taking off weight. I love that gutted look.

My car is completely gutted. All I have are my 2 door panels, and my 2 front seats. Your floor will get a little hot, but you'll hardly notice on your feet. I don't mind the guttedness at all, but then again, when i bought my car for $600 the interior wasn't worth crap anyways.
If you do take out ALL of your A/C stuff, those are the heaviest things. There's a lot of stuff for the A/C and heater behind your dash. I even took out my heater core.

But do think twice before removing your A/C if it does still work. There have been times where I wish I had my cold A/C back. I live in Arizona so the heater hasn't really bothered me being gone.
Gut It!!! It's amazing how all the weight adds up. I'm running a B16 with only I/H/E and next meet I'll run 13's.....weight is the enemy
You guys are "lucky" running B16's in a HF, DX or Si chassis.. the SiR with all it's goodies like power mirrors, windows and sunroof add a lot of weight making EVERY possible removal of parts a performance increase.. The SiR already has a heavier "base" to start from with it's beefier suspension..
I stripped most useless parts just to compensate the added weight in the suspension (Legend brakes/ Lude rotors/ struts) and rollcage
You know what really saves weight?
REMOVAL OF (C)RUSTY SUNROOF!!

i had the complete rear gutted in my hatch but i put it back in because i didnt notice a difference and it looked like ****.
Perhaps but....... WTF did I know what possibillites existed when I bought my SiR? and.... I got so much great stuff stock in the SiR which I don't have to worry about f.e. B-serie mounts, good brake cilinder, EX knuckles, swaybars connections and strong suspension setup..
I'm still dreaming about swapping a B16 in a 1985 1.5i GT 3rd gen civic.. that would rule
