Default OBD1/OBD2 B16A into 95 cx wiring question

ok so after many hours of research, I've concluded that I need 92 civic dash harness cause it's already got vtec wired in, and I should be looking for a integra OBD2 engine harness cause it plugs into eg's dash harness this way, I only have to wire the knock sensor, the engine is a OBD1, with OBD1 ECU,

opinions and suggestions? my stock cx harness has like 3 plugs that doesnt go anywhere, I just want to get this done with the least hassle,

so basically, OBD2 engine harness, rewired for obd1 dizzy and fuel injectors, to OBD1 92 civic dash harness with v-tec to OBD1 P30 ECU

let me know what u guys think

or you could just modify a Si harness? you didnt state what year and model civic you are using, dont make things more complicated then they need to be.

ok ok , so if you're using a CX harness in the cabin to the shock towers, then us a SI harness mod the plugs which isnt much and plug the sensors in, I know when I threw my 96 motor in from my ef into my 92 cx the sensors plugged in, but im not sure about post 95 sensors, but either way it should be plug and play aside from modding a few things on the harness.more insight anyone?

Just add wiring for VTEC solenoid, VTEC pressure switch, and knock sensor from the sensors to the ECU. Then add the additional 3 wires from the O2 sensor (the CX only has a one wire) to the ECU. No need to get new harnesses and swap cabin harnesses. PM me if you need any help and check my signature if you need a harness.

Why would you run an OBD2 engine harness if you're planning to run OBD1 components? The whole benefit of this setup was this it let you drop an OBD2 B-series into a '92 - '95 Civic while being able to run an OBD2 distributor, alternator and injectors without cutting and splicing any plugs.

the problem is, I dont have any plugs for vtec, oil pressure, or knock sensor, thats why I am considering buying the whole complete harness

Its easier to just run a '92 - '95 EX/Si harness and extend a few wires and add the knock sensor wiring (1 wire)

or its even easier to just buy a 94-95 gsr harness like i have in my basement so its all plug and play and not extending ANY wires

GS-R harness, and only a GS-R harness has a weird issue where wires for evap purge and IAB have to repined when using a GS-R harness on anything but a GS-R.

Regardless of what you've got forget about any chassis harness replacements. It's far much more a PITA to replace the chassis/dash harness that it is to run less than 6 wires from the shock tower plugs to the ECU plugs.

For your OBD1 swap and OBD1 ECU you simply need to either add the wires to your engine harness for VTEC, VTEC oil pressure switch (if the swap is USDM - JDM doesn't even have the VTEC pressure switch), knock sensor, 4-wire o2 sensor just like HondaPartsHero stated.

OR

Find any 1992-1995 Civic Si/EX or 93-95 Del Sol Si or VTEC model engine harness. Add the knock sensor wire to the harness if you get a SOHC.

Check your knock sensor - the plug matches other common sensors found on your engine already, so if you do in fact replace your engine harness simply cut the matching plug from your CX harness and use it for your knock sensor.

What ever you do do not buy an OBD2 engine harness for the OBD1 engine - you'll be creating more wiring hassles this way such as distributor plugs are different, injectors/plugs are different, IAT location is different, and alternator plugs/voltage regulators are different.

The only extra plug I can think of right off is the evap purge solenoid plug, as JDM engines didn't have a purge solenoid (though you can add one relatively easily)

To start with, thats an OBD0 B16A, you'll see why this matters in a second.

First pic is the plug for the thermoswitch for the rad fan, OBD0 engines have this on the back of block by the oil pressure sending unit, you can see this in pic 4. OBD0 engines have a different plug as well. Either get an OBD1 thermostat housing with the switch or extend the wires to switch on the back of the plug and solder on an OBD0 plug (can come from any OBD0 civic or integra)

Second pic is the MAP sensor plug, OBD0 and some JDM OBD1 B16As had a firewall mounted MAP sensor, either get a B-series throttlebody that uses a throttlebody mounted MAP or grab a firewall mounted MAP sensor and vacuum line off a '92 - '93 Civic DX/LX, or an older civic/accord/prelude.

Third pic is for the evap purge solenoid, JDM engines don't have one, it wont throw a code but you can add one if you like, you'll have to drill 2 holes and tap one of them on the back of the intake manifold.

Fourth pic is the oil pressure sending unit (hershey's kiss shaped plug) and the 2 pin plug beside it is the thermoswitch for the fan I mentioned earlier.

Wow first of all great pics, seriously.

Secondly 94EG8 just freaking killed it with his reply. I can't say anything that would help any more so than 94EG8 already has.

:wow:

That engine is OBD0 not OBD1, let the fun begin.
1st pic- ECT sensor plug
2nd pic-MAP or TPS plug
3rd pic- EVAP Purge solenoid plug
4th pic- Single pin should be Oil Pressure sender, dual pin unknown(Knock sensor should be under #2 intake manifold runner)

The dual pin is like a OBD0 oil temp sensor that is also a fan temp switch. OBD1 engines don't even have this sensor at all.

Ok, I was thinking that was similar to the obd1 single pin sender in the head under the upper radiator hose.

so.... damn it! must do research all over again, anyways, can I take out the thermoswitch out of the d15b7? and mount it on the B16? and i still have no idea where the knock sensor is?

so right now I should some how hook up a map sensor and find that dual Hersey plug for the thermoswitch

Just extend the wiring for the fan switch from the thermostat housing to the back of the block and use some one pin connectors, that or find an OBD1/2 b16a thermostat housing. The first option is the easiest/cheapest.
