Timing belt broke
So my timing belt broke yesterday. "fun"
I had done a valve adjustment like about 1500 miles ago. I knew I needed a timing belt. I was just lazy about it
... anyway... I didnt hear anything at all when it snapped. No metal, nothing, nada.
And I was going 80mph. Just shutting off
Does anyone know the actual probability of bent valves?
I might just pick up my buddys B17
But... Im just waiting until this engine dies. hahaha!
It just doesnt give up! Well it only has 135k or 140k.

At that speed, it would be a miracle if nothing happened. The only way, i can i see that you would get away with it, would be if you realized that the belt was gonna snap a second before it actually did and shut the car off while it snapped. Other than that, expect some damage...Sorry to hear, but maybe its a good thing if you wanted to get it rebuilt anyway

ya at 80 miles an hour that engine was probably humming right along, the chances of bent valves it probably 100%, but do what everyone else says and put a belt on and check compression.
I had a belt break on my 98 ls and none of the valves were damaged luckily

Im really lazy to pull the head. Ill bust the timing belt and do a compression check. haha
I put it on Neutral Asap. Dont know if that helped. probably not. lol
Crossing my fingers, but ow well. Fuc* it. Why stress as Jesus says

Guess what kids... no valve damage!
Should I be amazed?
It's funny how I had a GSR plan on the side already and I still can't go through with that GSR swap! dammit! lol
I just don't see a point in swapping out a healthy engine.

I'm a bit lost. So you snap a timing belt and the and cams spin on its own. But I always thought that a piston at TDC with valves open, it should not contact each other. Or there is something else involved?
Honda engines are "interference" engines... http://www.autoeducation.com/blog/en...-need-to-know/ 94
Lazyness got me also, I did the same thing. i just threw a new belt hopping fur the best and now its time fur a new belt again. i got just as lucky. It broke at 109,000 miles (original belt). now I wont let it go past 60,000 on a belt. Dont Want to push my luck.

for broken timing belts
my buddys timing belt snapped going 80 in his b18b1 non-vtec and he didnt bend any valves, but theres only one way to find out, have u checked yeT?
Last month, my wife had the timing belt in her car snap, less than 2 years after it was replaced, and it bent 8 of the 12 intake valves, ruining the seats and guides, scoring all 4 pistons, and warping the head. She was only going around 20mph in traffic at the time...
