Default How should my Autometer A/F gauge behave?

When I drive around after it has warmed up, it goes from the border of rich to stoich, then all the way to the bottom red led for lean, and just bounces around. I would say it's in lean 1/2 the time. But the thing is, when I let off the gas, the lights go away, almost like it's too lean when there's vaccuum. Should this happen? And it goes to rich when I floor it. It doesn't seem very helpful. I think I'll just save if for xmas and put it on the tree to decarate.

What this is probably a sign of is your fuel system needs 2 be upgraded. It would help to know what setup you have but either way there is really no quick answer. Could be anything from needing new or cleaned injectors, O2 sensor going out, fuel pump. One way to find out for sure would be a dyno but other than that you'll have to start eliminating problems. But, I would say as long as you are rich at WOT and you're not seeing(or hearing anyway) signs of sdetonation then be happy

It "bounces around" when the ecu is in closed loop, or adjusting a/f for stoich, this is normal. When you go full throttle, open loop, ecu does no adjusting. Honda's have a fuel cut under deceleration, causing the lights to go away. If you unplug the O2 sensor, setting off the MIL(check engine) light, plug it back in, don't reset the ecu yet. MIL should stay on, and you should see the a/f gauge showing a realtime reading, or as close as you can get. All we are doing here is switching the ecu to open loop, and reading the O2 sensor output( Normally this only happens at WOT). These meters aren't very acurate outside of stoich, but it'll get you in the ballpark.

lol that'd be perty!

Seriously though, those meters are not very helpful and before I'd go spending on this and spending on that, I'd get a wideband reading & or a quality gauge. Greddy & Halmeter make some really good ones.

Timonex, you have a Greddy a/f warning metter ?

Does it give accurate readings only in 5º gear or you can have good readings on other gears ?

I can only have good readings in 5º gear. Other gears give me very rich a/f.

Thanks in advance.

Yes it works very well. It should it costs enough. You sure the rich condition doesn't have more to do with higher RPMs? As in it's lower in 5th because your RPMs fell? Not sure how it could become innacurate due to being in a lower gear.
