gasket for aftermarket header?
does the oem exhaust manifold gasket fit on most aftermarket headers?
this is my first h22 i've ever worked on and i need a new gasket for the 2 piece header. i wasn't 100% sure if the oem one works so i figured i'd get on here and ask.
just for clarifacation also..it's not the one that is from the head..or the one that goes to the rest of the exhaust..it's the one that connects the two pieces of the header.

No, the stock parts use metal crush gaskets, you need to look around online for something maybe made for your header or similar.
Advance auto DIDN'T have the one I need either, I searched everywhere. Ended up re-using the gasket with a crapload of high-temp permatex (black is up to 500* I believe) and it's holding up so far.
Sorry bout not replying to my own thread for the past could days...I've been working doubles and sick. But I wasn't sure @ the time so I went ahead and ordered them from honda but it won't b a big deal to return them. I'll prolly end up taking it to napa and trying that.
Has anyone tried the diy gasket material u can buy from orielly's?

I've used the liquid stuff my exhaust manifold before. On the street it seems to hold up, at least for awhile. At the end of every track day it will usually have vanished though.
The cut your own probably would work better.

I have, It worked great. I purchased a sheet of exhaust gasket material from a local speed shop, used the OEM gasket as a template, and cut it out using a die grinder cutting wheel and a gasket hole cutter for the bolt holes. Its a higher quality material than the regular header gaskets that are normally found.

just to update because i didn't when i was done..but i tried the gasket material twice and it ended up blowing out on the back side..it might've been user error but i gave up after that..then i was told to try the high heat RTV silicone. i tried that and let it cure for 24 hours like the tube says and it's worked great so far.
