Ok so i just picked up this 96 accord lx automatic from my brother, the car is shifting kind of hard and the Check engine light is on. He pulled the code on it and it said it was the shift solenoid. After replacing the shift solenoid though nothing happend. Its still throwing the CEL and its still shifting hard. My brother said the only other thing he could think of it being would be the ECU. But after looking online it looks like these have a engine computer, and a transmission computer?

Does this sound like a problem that could be caused by a bad computer?

i do know that the obd-1 systems (94-95 accords) have a ecu and tcu, seperate, as you are stating. But I am unsure if the OBD-2 (96-97) does have two seperate control units and not just a single combined unit. Have you tested the new shift solenoids to make sure they are functioning properly? If not, it could be a case of a faulty TCU and is not responding correctly.

In any case, I have 95 accord ex shift solenoids and a TCU as well. PM me if interested.
