My car pops out of 5th gear? Why could this be? Could a hole in my exhaust vibrate and make it pop out?

 

Maybe its time for a new tranny.

synchros!! does it come out of gear once you release the gas pedal?

 

Ive seen low fluid levels cause this exact same thing. Check the fluid level first.

 

the clutch fluid has been depleting slowly, but there is plenty in there.

 

haven't tried that... it usually pops out when going 50 or faster. the faster i drive the quicker it pops out.

 

The fluid he was refering to was gear oil. I had a trans that leaked itself dry on a long drive once and it started popping out of 5th if I wasn't holding the shifter. Put oil in the trans and it was fine after that. Could also be a bad synchro.

change your MANUAL TRANSMISSION FLUID. It should help. If it doesn't, it's your 5th gear synchro.

 

drain your tranny fluid, fill up with honda MTF and see if it comes back. ~20 worth of fluid is a lot cheaper than a 300+ trans.

Ok, did some tests, it only does it when on the gas pedal and only 5th gear...

changing out the tranny fluid for honda mtf tomorrow.

 

SOunds like a good, easy first step.

it's telling you it wishes there was a sixth.

 

i wouldnt drive it at all until u change the fluid. if it just low u risk f***in ur 5th synchro

 

well just be glad that trannys' for the ex only cost about $150 at the junkyard.

if you wanna be cheap you can get a DX trannyy for about $70 at the junkyard, and just suffer a little acceleration loss, and the gain of better fuel mileage. and you can take it out, put a clutch in, and put the new tranny in, in under 4 hours

 

motor is a jdm b18c

 

well it will be cheaper to open it up and replace the synchros than to replace the tranny.

 

have you changed the fluid? if not do it and report back.

 

I had this EXACT SAME PROBLEM in my hatch and it was low tranny fluid, change your fluid i can almost guarentee thats the problem. Post back and let us know what happens.
