Default Car Issues (whining noise)

Just a little backstory, I was driving down the highway the other day, when suddenly I realized that the cars in front of me were in a dead stop, I thought their lights were signalling slowing down, so I had to slam on the brakes, nothing too hard, but harder than anything I've had to do in a while.

Ever since I hear something that sounds like metal on metal while I drive. It will make the sound randomly with no real reason as to why it stops or starts, one thing that seems to work is to brake and it will either quiet or quit completely. However, when it's in reverse, it makes an extremely high pitched, loud whine until the car is fully stopped.

Now I am overdue for an oil check and it is only on my front left tire, just to add.

What could be the problem?

Don't have ABS, I can't recall what exact model I have, but I think it's the 2004 LX, it's the 2dr, Automatic, no ABS, no power anything, except steering.

I'd say what you're hearing are the brake pad squealer tabs touching the rotor. It means you need new brake pads.

Check your brake pads

Sometimes when you have to brake excessively hard the calipers stick. Change brake pads and make sure to lube the bolts the caliper slides on.
