b18b1, h22 or k20 swap for turbo in my ek hatchback dx?
What would be a good series to do a swap? a b18b1 or a h22 or a k20?
i have a d16 and i wanna run a turbo but not on my d16 motor any thoughts would be great thanks!

j series is a little to much and i wanna stick with 4 cylinders
im thinking the b18b1 build would be easier and a little cheaper then the k20 and still get enough power out of it
what kind of internals did you do on yours?

k20 with a turbo is gonna equal mad wheel spin in a eg/ek!
i say go with a b18b, cheap swap and already has lower compression pistons
the k20 swap is much, much more expensive and time consuming than a b18b, on the other hand h22 are fun engines too..i would love to all motor one!

what about a d16 turbo build? just rebuild the motor and add eagle rods and vitara pistons for 500 bucks and new hg and then a turbo kit?
bisimoto did a 800+ wheel hp d16 sohc build youtube it its nuts! i was also told it would be a cheaper build to stick with the d series and can get more power out of it
Personally i think that depending on your power goals boosting you D Series is going to give you the best bang for your buck. But on another note you have not stated what your Plans and goals are. What type of power are you looking to put down? Is this a daily driver or track car?
daily driver but with a boost controller it can be a track car i think the d series build is the one im going to go with my goal is around 500hp almost identical build to bisimotos civic wagon d16 turbo build reaching 800+wheel hp it should be even cheaper to reach 500hp on the d series then spending well over 2 grand on a b18b1 turbo build and only getting 300whp
Less then a 3grand budget and your not doing it right or at least not reliably. That or you've got some really good hook ups. Trust me brother, ebay is NOT gonna get it done right! I'd say set aside at least 5 to 6 Gs for the swap, a reputaible inexpensive kit, and a tuner. And if your not inclined to do the entire install on your own, then i'd slide over about 4 to 5 more for the labor cost. Don't get me wrong dude; it might could be done for your budget but, your going to have to ask yourself what you want out of it in terms of quality and performance. You'll spend so much less if you make a solid plan from the start.
i have an ek civic hatch with a d16 with a few hook ups on parts and head work and things like that to save a few bucks so no swap just a rebuilt motor and i will save around 3 grand before buying anything
Just boost your d-series. You'll need $3,000 to do it.
I don't see why you're not willing to turbo your d. If the motor compression tests just fine then turbo it. You can make plenty of power (way more than you'd like on a street car) with stock internals.
With $3,000 you have a choice, a basic b-series swap, or boost your D. It's not very reasonable to do both for that budget.
it sounds to me like you don't have any business doing any of it judging by your ineptitude in the subject matter.
If you want to do ANYTHING to your car, I advise you to have the capability to afford repairing in the event of parts breaking, etc.
The best thing about a d-series compared to the other engines, if you blow it up you're only out a few hundred bucks, $500 tops. If you blow a k-series you're out a few thousand, and about a grand for the other engines. If I were to turbo I would just boost a d-series. Boosting a bigger engine is fairly impractical because like i said, you can make more than enough power on the smaller engine. 200-250whp is already pushing the limits physically with a fwd economy car.
People who want 400whp+ turbo the bigger/better engines. Go drive a 400-600whp turbo civic and tell me you'd like to drive that ever day and get back to me.
I love driving a 400+ whp civic... its insane and always makes me
... but as a daily driver? Hmmmm, 220 to 250 would be considered "tire friendly" and im sure it would still tickle the happy spot. If you've desided to keep it "D" then it will cut down the cost. What kind of numbers are you looking for? Is it gonna be your daily and it the only thing you have?

H series is the best bang for the buck and K series has some serious potential, as well as a 6th gear.
The LS shouldn't even be listed with these other fine engines. 140 HP vs. (up to) 220 HP on the other two.
Since you asked, I would certainly go with the H22. Much more power potential and cheaper down the road. If the FRM liners turn you off, pick up a F20B VTEC, which is basically a destroked H22 with normal liners. $800 from H-motors, 200 HP, 145 TQ.
I see people go through LS's pretty much biweekly. I don't know what the current obsession with them is, but they just aren't fast.

ive decided to go with the d series turbo build and hope to hit around 500+whp with it. bisimoto.com hit 800+ with his d16 turbo build i am going to rebuild the motor (resurface and polish) get head work done and replace all internals this will run me around 3grand if not a little more thankn you for your opinions but i would rather hit over 500hp with a sohc engine then a dohc for the bragging rights
Well, 500 HP is 500 HP.
Remember to carve your own path - don't do something just because someone else has. That, and bragging rights is really a matter of opinion. Once you stop giving a crap about other people's opinions and just focus on the facts, then you will truly shine. I kind of see that happening a bit already.
Honda-Tech is full of sheep that just follow a trend and jump on whatever the current "bling-word" is. Just remember to ignore all the fads and you'll do fine.
