Icon2 Z6 failed compression test: Do I need new block or new head gasket?

So after failing a compression test, I opened up the head on my D16Z6 and discovered some chips on the sleeves. It doesn't seem like it would propagate to the cylinder walls. What am I looking to replace?

Sorry brother. That block's day has come and gone. Time to start looking for a new engine.

As I posted before its done. Pick up a JDM SOHC Vtec ZC, new OEM waterpump, timing belt, thermostat and PCV valve and that will run another 200,000.

Could it be possible that those chunks got into my water pump. My car overheated bad right before this happened

Possibly, you've probably got chunks plugging up cooling passages in the block too. Biggest reason it probably overheated though was a blown headgasket. looks to me like someone ran straight water and it corroded.

B-series engines are pretty robust when it comes to headgaskets, D-series, not so much. Its your call, but 5 out of 6 people just told your block is junk. By the time you add up new headgasket, headbolts, intake manifold gasket, water pump and most likely thermostat its not that cheap to throw a headgasket in. Besides like i said the last time you posted this it looks like its ready to be re-ringed, it may not have burned oil before but it will now.

I there was a lot of water dumped in but that was after overheating. I needed to get it home. You're right though, some of the passages do have some deposit buildup. Gonna have to flush and clean.

I'm gonna check the water pump tonight and see how that's working. I guess I'll drain the water jacket too and see if I can find the pieces. Otherwise I don't know where the hell they would be.

Well I'm definitely taking everyone's advice about going for a new block but I want to build the bottom end and get a turbo kit together while I'm at it. I'm thinking, yeah, it's gonna junk out on me but it's gonna buy me time to get a turbo ready right?

It may last a while, it may not work at all, it may leave you on the side of the road somewhere and with an expensive tow bill. like I said its your call, just ask yourself if you can afford for it not work, if you can then sure go for it.
