Icon6 HELP! I DONT HAVE A CLUE WHAT MY MECHANIC IS TALKING ABOUT

FIRST OFF I HAVE A 2001 HONDA ACCORD LX COUPE AND LAST YEAR I FIRST STARTED HAVING TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS AND I BROUGHT IT TO A TRANSMISSION SHOP AND GOT IT REBUILT. I HAD A 12 MONTH WARRANTY. SO TWO WEEKS AGO MY D4 INDICATOR LIGHT STARTED FLASHING AGAIN SO I BROUGHT IT BACK TO THE TRANSMISSION SHOP AND HE SAID IT WAS GIVING HIM SOME KIND OF SOLENOID CODE AND THAT HE WAS GOING TO REBUILD IT AGAIN.

SO A WEEK LATER I CALLED HIM AND HE SAID HE WAS FINISHED BUT IT STILL WAS GIVING HIM THE SAME CODE AND MY CAR IS STILL HAVING TROUBLE ACCELERATING AND THE D4 LIGHT IS STILL BLINKING, HE THEN TOLD ME THERE IS A SHORT CIRCUIT IN MY COMPUTER AND THAT I WILL NEED MY COMPUTER REPLACED... DOES THIS SOUND RIGHT? AND WHAT IS A COMPUTER? IS THERE MORE THAN ONE? PLEASE HELP!!! ANY INFO WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED, HE TOLD ME TO GO LOOK IN JNKYARDS AND SHOP AROUND ONLINE BUT I DONT KNOW EXACTLY WHAT IM LOOKING FOR

He rebuilt the tranny for a solenoid code? Sounds fishy but those trannies are garbage right out of the factory. (Most of 'em) beware of p0700, it basically means transmission failure. As for the computor it will need to be replaced if it was shorted out, But what caused the short? And yes there are numerous computors Im assuming your tech is referring to the Transmission control module which can run around $800 new from honda so he better be damn sure he repairs the short before installing the new one. Also, ask him which solenoid is fried.

Edit: Was the solenoid code there before he rebuilt the transmission or after?

Sounds like you should get a second opinion from a someone who specializes in Honda vehicles.

hey OP...please do not post in all caps here.

thanks.

and you definitely need to get a second opinion. a honda technician would have used factory troubleshooting techniques to find out the root issue.

it sounds like you might have had the tranny rebuilt for no reason and might deserve some sort of money back.

try to find an independent shop that specializes in honda/acura. there are some really fantastic operations throughout the country and i'm sure there has to be at least one in the NOLA area.

can't help you on the ECU but typically, on hondas, once you locate it in the car, ie under a passenger kick panel, behind the radio on the floor, under passenger side floorboard, etc. etc., you can check the label of the ecu and the alphanumeric 3 character code in the middle of all the dashes will give you the exact ECU. it will looks like p2p, p2e, p28, p73, etc. then obviously you'd need to denote if it is an automatic vs. a manual when searching used ones. automatic ECU will have typically one more pinned connector ports vs. manual.
