Default Cat replacement

What are you guys using as a replacement cat?

I really need an OEM unit but they seem close to impossible to source, and I'm not going to pay out the **** at the stealership.

Any input on this topic would be greatly appreciated

Pic of cat for good measure:

I've sourced the ITR carsound cat, but none of their dealers have it in stock. Also I can't weld for ***** I'd rather have something plug and play

You don't have to weld. Take it to a good muffler shop, it shouldn't be too expensive a job.

I can't weld for **** either, but I have a good muffler shop nearby. Good luck!

Goose, get one from Carsound. Contact your favorite muffler guy in your area and ask him how much he can get a univeral cat for. Personally I had to go through this in June. I found the one I like from car-sound, then searched online for prices with the part number, I got the best price on amazon. I stated this part number and price to my muffler guy, which he took into consideration and gave me a decent price around the $200 (installed). I can get you the part number for the cat I am using if you PM me and remind me. He took the flanges off the straight pipe that was on the car and he welded them on to my cat. It is simple and should cost less for you depending on where you live, CA can be expensive when it comes to Cat.

Also another concern will be removing the O2 sensor that is currently on the car, they will probably tell you that too, just in case they cannot remove it and that you may have to purchase a new o2 sensor, I believe someone on this forum is selling a few or is it the ITRCA.COM site.

Let me know if you need anything else. Remember PM is key w/ me

I have a universal cat with welded flanges. It cleared the CEL for the secondary oxygen sensor, but after a while it began to through another code regarding the cat not working correctly. I was warned that this would happen and did hear a lot of word stating that hondas in general do not react well to any aftermarket cats. I don't remember the CEL code, it was something with catalytic in it..

Contact Dave at SMSP. He will ship you what you need, for about $200 (with donut and gasket).
If your cat is giving you an 'out of threshold' CEL.... google 'angled O2' (per Meltman).

I opened the box from SMSP and there was a perfectly welded, plug and play, hi flow cat.

The 1st one that I got was to be used on a USDM 'B' pipe, which had a JDM 2.5 4-1 header. The cat was 17" long with one O2 bung, for my 2001 yellow car.

The 2nd one was to replace a rattling OEM OBDII cat, on my 2000 LS coupe. It is 17 5/8" long.

Each time, I described what I had/what my plans were and Dave welded something up for me.

1st off, do not include those special GSR catayltic converters. They were different from the other integras and I think that they were made from 1995 -97, but these years might not be correct. Just disregard the GSR units.

All of the other integras have the same lengths and their parts are interchangeable.

If you start stirring in JDM exhaust parts, you will see that they are different lengths.

USDM OEM cate = 17 5/8"

I have a USDM cateback, by Greedy that I am not using, but it is the same length as the USDM OEM cateback.
I wanted the 2.5" collector of the JDM header and I wanted to keep it stock-looking with the factory shields.
Here is a photo showing 9 nickels stacked on top of my custom cate. So the USDM cate is 9 nickels longer.

Caution: If you decide to buy all the pieces and have them welded locally, find a motorcycle fab shop. Their welds are always exposed and in plane site, so they have to be on top of their craft. If you take it to a muffler shop, where they know that no one will ever see your work, they will be sloppy.

Appreciate the reply

I thought 17 5/8" was the correct measurement, but wanted to double check.

Is the custom cat 17"? I may be using a JDM 4-1 in the future

Yes, it is. The photo shows the location of the bung, in reference to the 'b' pipe (3) bolts. The other end of the cate has a movable , 2 bolt, flange (where the donut goes.
I do not have/want a 2.5" cateback, so Dave made my custom cate with a 2.5" input and a 2.25" output, and one bung hole (for obdII). So I have a choke point, but I am not putting any engine upgrades on my car.
