Manual Transmission whine?
havent found anything that looked like what I am hearing posted on here, so here goes, my car has a H22a4, with the 5 speed, seems that it has a nasty whine noise that goes along with the speed of the car, in gear.. is there a common issue with this, or just something I have that is messed up..
The motor and trans are in a 95 civic hatch, but I figured this would be the place to ask..
thanks

You should describe the "whine" a little better. What exactly does it sound like? Does the "whine" change as you shift gears, matching RPMs? Or are you saying that the "whine" is directly proportional to the car's velocity?
Lack of effort is directly proportional to a lack of answers.

Is this a new swap? are your axles sitting comfortably, or are they overly tight against the outputs on your trans?? are you missing any bolts into the transmission?? if so it could be a missing gear stack center shaft anchor bolt.. that'd make a whine.. C'mon, be specific lol
Sorry, if it was alittle general. The whine is matched to my cars speed, same noise most old Toyota trucks make, yes kinda like small straight cut gears!! Axles look decent, trans has fluid... Kinda lost...

I'm going to look into that input shaft bearing, what do you think about the throw out bearing, for the clutch, could that cause it? I noticed it has a slight rattle sound when in neutral with the clutch engaged... Might be it, thanks for the help... I'll post what I find when I remove the trans.
A whine matched to the car's speed is most likely differential bearings, but could be a countershaft bearing. The diff and the countershaft are the only parts of the trans that move at the same rpm as the wheels.
If the whine was matched to engine rpm, I'd say it could be a throwout or input shaft bearing.
Expect to pay about $500 for a differential bearing service.

if the whine is matched to the cars speed it wouldn't be an input shaft bearing or throw out bearing.. a whine from either of those would match engine speed, not vehicle speed. but ya lol, sounds like it's time for a new transmission.. it's most likely on the output half of the trans.. good luck

Still incorrect. With the clutch pedal released whether you're in gear or not, the input shaft will be spinning at engine rpm. Thus, a bad input shaft bearing would still make noise in neutral. Go take a look at my post above. Try and be more articulate w/all this, transmission work is expensive and getting that sucker in and out is a major bitch in a prelude.
bingo, gf's miata just had this happen to her. To top it off we just replaced it and 5 months later it is doing it again. Throw out bearings are these symptoms exactly.

That makes sense I had this happen to me when I had my integra but it was diagnosed by a transmission shop as a bad ips although they did not pull the tranny to investigate they just drove it, when I pulled the tranny to replace it, I noticed the ips spun more freely than it should
Point is we had the same symptoms and its cheaper to replace the trans with a used one than rebuild it
BTW.... I am parting out my 94 lude with jdm h22 motor and trans... trans is perfect shape
