so...i keep reading on the webz that burned exhaust valves are common with the first gen CR-V b20. this surprised me as i know a bazillion people swap these into civics/integras and drive them hard/a lot. so, what's the story? i found a CR-V i like, 83k, one owner, blah blah - carfax shows all dealer maintenances done at the honda dealer, but nothing re: the valves. oh, it's a '99.
any info on this supposed issue?

i've never heard of that....you have been given wrong information. the B20 is perfectly fine....no valve issues. the only issues the B20 has been known for is cracking sleeves when not properly tuned or over powered.
Thats funny my friend just picked up a 99 with a burnt exhaust valve for cheap, just did a valve job and it runs great now. So there maybe something to the story's. One thing I would think is most people doing swaps are more likely to keep up the valve adjustments than the standard cr-v owner who probably drive it for 100,000 miles and never think about it.
the valve seat wears out over time making it impossible to adjust valves so they burn out..once that happens its a new cylinder head about 2gs from Honda..Yes they are common on first gen crv..a way to help with the issue is to do valve adjustment about every 30k miles
lol no YOU have been given wrong information. there is TSB's from honda on this very issue. (honda doesnt issue TSB's for rumors lol) i bought my crv with a burnt exhaust valve in cyl #3...and when i checked the rest of them, i couldnt even get a .001 feeler gage in ANY of them. all 8 exhaust valves were tighter than ****. not sure why, but its VERY common in 1st gen crv's
