93 Civic - Converting 5spd to Automatic
Hey guys,
So I'm looking at buying a 4 door eg for my wife. It's completely stock, has a d15 with a 5-speed transmission. It's a steal of a deal, but unfortunately my wife can't drive a stick so I'm looking for a guide to convert from a manual to an automatic.
I found this guide to do the reverse (auto to manual) http://floridahondacrew.com/diy-do-y...ic-5speed.html
I wanted to verify whether or not it's essentially the reverse process or not. Also if there already was a guide on how to do this.
Thank you!

Yes, the swap is essentially the reverse of a Auto to Manual change.
The main problem you will have is the passenger side Transmission mount. The mounts are welded to the unibody in slightly different locations. There are after-market mounts to put a Manual trans in a Auto, but no one builds one for the reverse, Auto Trans in a Manual. You will have to fabricate your own custom mount.

i'm going to warn you right now this is no where near the essentially plug and play process an auto to manual swap is. It involves cutting off the manual pocket mount and welding in the automatic version (this has to be done because the manual mount wont clear the automatic transmission case) besides that you have to replace the underdash harness, this involves removing the dash, steering column, pedals, heater core, A/C condenser if equipped, battery tray and a few other things, the harness runs out through the firewall all the way up to the passenger's side headlight and horn. Either find an automatic or teach your wife to drive stick.
I would think that you would be in a strong negotiating position for a trade with somebody who owns an automatic Civic, given that manual Civics are in more demand.
Thanks for the advice guys.
That's what I'm feeling is the best avenue to go too. Having to pay for welding fab work essentially defeats the purpose of what we were trying to accomplish (a cheap daily driver that's reliable).
Ron, there's a whole bunch of other stuff that needs to be done to the car, paint, body work, interior stuff, etc. plus it's a sedan and doesn't have a swap - so as I'm sure you know in the Houston market it wouldn't pull as nice of a value as say a swapped hatch or the like. Thanks for the suggestion though!
