Default Timing belt slapping, then coming loose

First I was having some timing belt slap on the back side at lower RPM's. Then I went back to stock cam gears cause my SK2 cracked. Afterwards I took it for a spin and the belt just cam loose. Luckily no damaged was done. Then tensioner was tightened, could there be something wrong with it or the spring? Is this all related?

I went ahead and ordered a new timing belt, tensioner and spring, hopefully this solves the problem.

Make sure your belt is tight before you go off driving. Your tensioner has a pin that the tensioner hooks up too and the spring on the other side. If it is not in the correct place, it can lead to a loose belt, thus in your case, your belt falling off. since you ordered a new belt, and a new tensioner, install it correctly, and then you should be fine. Just a loose timing belt from what it seems a incorrect placement of the tensioner. It happens.

Either you installed it incorrectly or you have a faulty tensioner.

This isn't my car just a reference photo from c-speed's website. But is this the pin your referring too on the top side of the pulley in the picture? i believe the spring is on the opposite end correct?

Maybe the previous owner installed it incorrectly. I have only had the upper TB cover off. Never removed the tensioner before or do a complete TB change. This will be the first since I owned it.

All the tensioner does is spin and slide side to side? What could go wrong that it would need replacing?

Yes the tensioner spring sits behind the tensioner. Seems like the previous owner didnt do a good job.

Ok so I got a new TB, Tensioner and Spring installed. Everything looked good except the belt. At every tooth it had bad cracking, it must have stretched causing the slapping. Good thing it didn't break. IDK if it has every been changed in its 50k miles. Even fully tensioned the old belt was very loose and not even as close to being as tight as the new belt. The crank pulley was on super tight too.

Did you rotate the engine over by hand 3 times and check the belt tension before you started it up ?

It was tensioned, started for a few seconds and re tensioned. It did get a little loose after the start. Is that the point of cranking it over?

Yes.

After rotating by hand I have loosened the tensioner and re-tightened it and found it to get much tighter.

Try different things one of them will work.
