EG hatch with a z6: tach messing up/transmission noise
i have EG hatch with a z6. i just put in a new stock clutch & a "rebuilt" transmission (manual). i think the transmission has had some work because its stamped A000 but has ex gears & its VERY clean on the outside. my problem is that there is a whinning noise from the transmission side while going down the road but it goes away if i let off the gas & it doen't do it at itle. the other problem is that when i accelerate hard the tach will jump some , not terribly , but its definatly noticeable. the tach never did this before.
so anybody got an idea of whats going on here?
-thanks

The tach gets its signal from the igniter unit inside the distributor. Have it tested.
Does the transmission noise go away when the clutch pedal is pushed to the floor?

the dizzy is pretty new so i would think its fine. as far as the noise it does not do it idle . only when im giving it gas but goes away if i let off

i dont think so? this is only my second car and dont know the signs of a clutch slipping.
^So, while you're accelerating the rpms just don't all of a sudden rev while you're foot never left the gas or touched the clutch?
This would be the signs of a very bad slipping clutch though.

no the tach only jumps when i accelerate hard. and seems only past 4k ( so when its in vtec?)
can you tell me if the clutch is adjustable & if the clutch slave cylinder is not bled right could this cause this problem? also how tight should the clutch pedel feel with a oe style cluch?
As you are releasing the clutch pedal, how high does it rise before the clutch is fully engaged?
I don't think a clutch hydraulic system problem would cause the whining you describe.
If the clutch is truly slipping, then the flywheel that was not resurfaced may be the problem.
Are you sure the noise is not coming from one of the drive belts?

what is the break in period (miles) that should be driven on a rebuilt tranny before actually really "getting on it?
