Default Steering wheel advice...

Hey fellas,

Leather versus Suede?

I use a (too small) 320mm Momo Monte Carlo and am going up to a larger diameter -- thinking of trying out the Suede style.

Personal choice for sure but would like pro/con from others.

< uses suade and suade palm gloves for max grip and minimal wear.

if this thing is going to see daily duty. get leather or plan on buying wheels frequently.

Had a Nardi 330mm, switched to a Personal 350mm for the same reason as you my Nardi was too small.

As far as material, all of mine have been leather so I cannot comment on how suede is. I havent had any trouble with my hands slipping FWIW.

Suede-on-suede (gloves + wheel) is sex in a can. I have never bothered with the expense though, and have always defaulted to the longer life of leather.

Suede on rubber/urethane is better than sex in a can, and nice grip too.
Grippy enough but can slide just right too.
350mm is the ticket. Anything else is too small IMO.

Suede on rubber? Who makes a wheel like that? I kinda remember MOMO having some weird looking ones, but closer examination looks like they're all leather or suede.

On a completely unrelated site, MOMO's website is KILLER. It has an autozoom function for any of the products, and is REALLY zoomed in. Neat stuff.

Also, 320mm on a stock manual EG Civic rack isn't that bad, and helps with the otherwise mostly-crummy rack ratio. On anything more resistant than that, I agree that 350mm is the smallest one should go.

It's a Momo... I dont know what model it is but it has a nice feel to it.
I'll check when i get home tonight, the back side of the steering wheel has all the model information.

i had a 330 before i started tracking. it sucked. it felt like i was on a lawn mower. i drove a few buddies cars with 350s. i will agree a 350 is the way to go. i like the feel of suede in bare hands because you can "feel" the texture through your hands. ive been wearing gloves lately and i dont get the same "feel".

The wheel is closest to the "Jet" steering wheel as I can tell from their website.
It does have some notable differences to it as well.
I have had it for 3 years and love it.

Good topic. I'm running into issues with steering wheel grip lately. Stock integra steering wheel; not changing it out (daily/weekend warrior). Any recommendations...wheel is over a decade old and slippery. I'm assuming a good pair of gloves should take care of it......

Bowrrow some suede gloves and try that before you buy some.
A good pair of gloves that will last you start about 75 bux and go up.

Speaking of which, anyone in the market for some Alpinestars Tech 1-Z gloves (not suede)? LOL.

Worn for two time trials events.

I wear a large in every glove ive ever known, but these ones are too small.

How many guys are using a dished wheel? I'm trying to decide between getting a dished Sparco or OMP 350mm suede or a non dished wheel.

Is it tacky for me to try a steering wheel cover...

Bump this up because going from my ep to my ek feels like I am driving a school bus.

I've been looking into the OMP deep 3 spoke wheels. Not sure on what hub length to go with out a wick release. Everywhere I see a short hub and wick release packaged together but no normal or long hubs.

What is the size of a stock EK wheel? My biggest problem is leg room trying to heel toe. With my seat in the proper location if I move my right foot over my leg hits the wheel. The only solution with the stock wheel is to raise it up which makes it feel like a truck driver and rather uncomfortable due to the height of my seats. My seat pan is 1/4" off the floor lol. I sat in a friends car with a 320MM wheel I believe and it was way too small for my taste but it did get rid of that leg hitting the wheel problem.

I run a 350 momo leather with Sparco tide gloves.

I might switch to a suede Sparco but at the moment no need

Probably 370-390mm. The Integra wheel is somewhere in that range, the JDM ITR is ~350mm. The CTR wheel may be the same, I'm not sure (NOTE: If you don't know, an Integra wheel will NOT fit on an EK steering shaft).
