Do I Need To Change My Transmission? What's Wrong With My Car???
Hey guys I have a 2005 Honda Civic EX Sedan with an 1.7L I4 Engine.
Recently my car has been giving me some problems and I don't really know what's wrong iwth it.
When I first start the car the YELLOW ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON.
Then I can drive the car but whenever I get to the first stoplight or stop sign and try to start moving again THE CAR MOVES FORWARD VERY SLOWLY even if I floor it on the gas pedal. It seems like it only does it in first gear and then after it gets into the higher gears the speed is fine on the car.
Like I cloud be driving for a long time on the highway and I don't have any problems with the speed but the TEMPERATURE GAUGE DOESN'T MOVE.
I tried taking it to one place and they told me that I need to get a new transmission but if this is something I don't absolutely have to do, I'd like to avoid it. I would ideally like to take it to a number of different places but I'm afraid to drive it anymore for fear that the car will just stop moving altogether and then I'd have to get a tow truck and all that good stuff. = /
Does anybody have any insight?
Please help...

The "yellow engine light" is the Check Engine Light. You need to see what is causing the engine to throw codes, and get it diagnosed and repaired.
Well the bad news..If you look up compliants on Honda Civics 01-05 you'll see that the Transmiission is at the top of the list.. If you have any kind of warranty left on your car.. Take it in now... If not you may be looking at a new transmission...
those transmissions are junk in those cars i have done way to many, have the codes pulled anywhere really at autozone advance or whoever don't spend your money for the codes to be pulled and come back here and report to us what codes they are and i will point you in the correct direction
The 01-05 auto trans has plenty of problems .. .Built several now and all had burn steels and frictions rebuild with Alto FS .

keep changing the fluid at the recommended intervals, other than that no its junk through and through
I just checked on ownerlink and there is not scheduled maintenance for the trans fluid and filter. Anyone know the recommended replacement schedule?
Also is it just the clutch disk set that is the problem, how easy is it to replace for a DIYer. Are special tools needed?
Thanks,
Dan

Rebuilding a transmission is not for the "weekend mechanic." It's too easy to mess it up, especially if you've never done it before. It's best to have it done by someone with experience.
under my experience, reving it at neutral then throwing it at D is also a good way of extending the life of your transmission..
This forum has been getting alot of 7th gen tranny issues lately

Not sure if the AT fluid was changed at 5 years so I will change it.
Also any comment on the longetivity of the transmission once the clutch set has been replaced "upgraded?"
Are there other things that can be done as it appears from the comments that the transmission is generally considered junk, just trying to get some clarity on what to expect...

Hey guys I FINALLY have some updates for you so hopefully it'll help you guys figure out what's going on.
(1) A mechanic pulled the code for me for the engine light and came up with: 2769
(2) I forgot to mention this in my earlier post, but when the car is cut on the Green D (D4 GEAR) Light continues to blink (even when the car is in park).

P2769 means there's an electrical short, specifically "Torque converter clutch solenoid valve short"

1. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
2. Disconnect PCM connector A (31-pin)
3. Check for continuity between PCM terminal A23 and a body ground, and between terminal A24 and a body ground.
Is there continuity?
Yes - Go to step 4
No - Repair open in the wire between PCM connector terminals A23, A24 and ground (G101, or repair poor ground. (G101)
4. Disconnect PCM connector C (22-pin)
5. Measure the resistance between PCM connector terminals C2 and A23 or A24.
Is there less than 12 ohms?
Yes - Go to step 6
No - Update the PCM if it doesn't have the latest software version, or swap it with a known-good PCM, then recheck. If the problem goes away with a known-good PCM, replace the original one.
6. Disconnect the torque converter clutch solenoid valve connector. (2-pin)
7. Check for continuity between PCM connector terminals C2 and A23 or A24.
Is there continuity?
Yes - Repair short to ground in the wire between PCM connector terminal C2 and torque converter clutch solenoid.
No - Replace the torque converter clutch solenoid valve.
