Skunk2 Rant
Sorry about posting this but I got crazy lucky today...
I had installed new Skunk2 Pro series upper ball joints (the camber kit things) about 2 months ago. Everything was going fine till today, I was making a right turn from a stop sign, hear this INSANELY loud bang, and then the front left of my car basically falls...
Get out to look and I see this (minus the gold part since it was still attached to the A-arm)...
laying on the ground...
So yeah... Like I said... I got CRAZY lucky that I was only going about 5 mph when it happened... And because of this, I'm never gonna buy Skunk2 crap again... The ebay kit I had before held up better then this.

Are you sure it was a failure of the part, or the application it was applied to?
I.E. are you someone that is ridiculously low, or runs ridiculous amounts of camber to "look cool"?
Also since you installed them have you checked them to verify that they hadn't come lose in any manner due to vibration.
I am just asking questions because I find it hard to believe a company as large as S2 would let something like this go. Granted it could have been defective from the factory, as not everything is perfect, I would contact S2 and see what they have to say.

Instead of bashing skunk2, why dont you try to contact them first? If the product is only a couple months old like you said they may warrenty it for you? I have never had a problem with any of their stuff, and a lot of my friends use their products too and never have had problems, maybe your stuff got through qc without beeing noticed? But Im sure it wouldnt hurt to give them a call to see if they can help you out before you go bashing their name online.

thats why junk2 (skunk2) products arent so good... its just a cheap brand name. ball joints are really cheap and not durable. i wouldnt be suprised if that happend to you.. for sh**s and giggles i purchased at rhino (ebay) generic brand front camber kit. that thing broke on me 2 months later ... with only 800 miles on normal granny daily driving. my car isnt dumped and my camber.alignment was good.

like the others have said s2 is a reputable well known company with quality parts, please contact them first before bashing their product. It could be a miscue on them, or u might have mis installed the part. don't be so rash to bash a part that fails, many factors could have contributed to this failure.

Seriously? Install problems? It's 4 bolts torqued to 114 in-lbs.... If somebody messed that up, they should step away from the car game... My car isn't lowered that much and surprisingly, it's on Skunk2 springs. Also, I wasn't really bashing them, just said I wasn't going to buy their products anymore. Kind of hard to trust a company again when you could've been killed or your car gets destroyed from a part failure...
Also, I had the car aligned after installation because I did tie rods too.

Contact skunk2 in the morning.
This happaned to my father, when his lower ball joint broke on his car. About 5mph going over a speed bump.
Which was not related to skunk2 in any way. It happens just be glad you wernt on the highway.

first of all, you get what you pay for. and if S2 was complete junk, why do i see it ALL OVER the H/A world? not just amateurs, but professionals too?
like what was stated above, contact Skunk2 about the problem. and maybe whoever installed it, didn't do the job..
for bashing a respectable company

Did the bolts break? Did the threads strip out? Did the joint pop apart? Then we could attribute the problem to manufacturing.
Did they simply wiggle loose? Then it would be an improper install where you probably didn't torque the bolts down tight enough, or recheck them

If you got it aligned, a tech could have forgot to tighten the screws on the upper ball joint deals. I'm not a fan of S2 stuff (I think it's overpriced), but until I see screws and you explain exactly how this happened, I'm going to assume it's an installation problem.
The screws had nothing to do with it. The top part was still attached to the A-arm. The actual steel ball broke out of the top half. The screws were just fine. Threads aren't stripped, good condition still.

for not reading. And if I get what I pay for, wtf happened here then? I paid the extra for a name brand company and it breaks. Just to clear everything up, when I said crap, I meant Skunk2 ball joints, not the entire company.
If I ever replace my Skunks I'm getting Buddy Club.

It's similar design, I don't know about material. The Buddy Club has a closed top whereas the other brands have an open top.

No matter what the item is, things can always have a manufacture defect. At this point its all about what can Skunk2 do for you? If they dont do a thing, then screw them. Thats where customer service will show how good a company really is.
skunk2 wont do jack **** for OP if he put them on wrong. seeing how he is clearly off on tq specs, i say its installer error. the 30 second google search i took had the tq specs between 36-42 ft/lbs of tq. according to OP's own admission he only tq them to 114 in-lbs, which works out to less than 10 ft-lbs. OP your fault, /thread.
