Default 97 honda civic overheating.

ok guys, i'm really new to maintaining my own car so all the advice i can get is greatly appreciated. my car has been overheating, the temperature gauge on my dash doesn't work at all and it seems like the coolant doesn't circulate and just evaporates. i noticed what looks to be steam coming from the front corner of the car where the coolant reservoir is located after i start driving. i've checked where i park and there doesn't seem to be leaks underneath the vehicle either. i feel like i can do easy things myself even with the lack of experience with cars. any opinions on this matter would be a great help. thanks for your patience with my long winded post just want to get all the info i felt was important out here. thanks.

Sounds like you might have a hose with tiny hole that sprays on rad. or header. Next time when you see it steam pop the hood and see whats going on

ok, so i went to check my engine to see if i could find out anything more and discovered my cooling fan didn't come on at all, also saw some oil leaking from engine just underneath where the upper hose from the radiator goes into the engine. almost immediately after the engine got to normal operating temp it the coolant started boiling or at least thats how it seemed to be. don't know if the oil is relevant or just another seperate problem i gotta figure out now

oil is different problem. Sounds like you have more than 1 problem, try doing compression test to see if you have blown headgasket
