Weird noise when idling and revving...
Was driving my 03 es2 tonight, my wifes car. While driving, around 2000 rpm's or below maybe more around 1800 rpms the car makes a weird metal clanging noise. Drove around a bit and went back home. Put the car in park, then gently revved it, and right around 1800 rpms it makes that noise. Can anyone help me out? What should I check? Just looking for advice.
Thanks for your help.
Thanks for your help.
Probably the heat shield on the catalytic converter. (if it's an EX)
Crawl under the car and give each (top and bottom) half a wiggle. They tend to rot at the flanges and it will cause it to rattle at certain revs.

is it safe to just take the whole shield off? I've heard it is...anyone else do that?
I had the same problem, so I removed the whole heat shield. Haven't had any issues.
The main reason the heat shield is there, is to prevent a fire from occurring if you park in high grass etc. Mines been off for about 2 years, just dont park in tall dry grass lol
