Default Quick question about CA smog

I received my registration renewal for my Integra in the mail just now, and noticed that it says I need to smog the car. I just bought the car last year and it was smogged when we transfered the ownership of the car. Is there some new law where I need to have my car smogged every single year now or did dmv just mess something up?

When I bought my Evo a couple years ago, I didn't have to smog it until 2 years after the
smog when we transfered ownership.

I tried to call DMV, but appearently they're closed today and I can't call until Monday, so I was hoping maybe someone here knew the answer.

It's a new law that the car must be smogged when transfering, or the seller smogs the car before selling. If the seller smogs you have three months to transfer. I think they made this law a couple years ago?

The car needs to be smogged every 2 years and/or when you are selling the car. So look at it this way: Car was last Smogged 09-10-07 so smog is due on 09-10-09. But the seller wanted to sell the car before then, lets say 01-10-09. He still needs to smog the car before its sold and the car needs to be smogged on 09-10-09. So, just because the car was smogged because it was being sold, doesnt mean it doesnt need its bi annual smog. Ever wonder why they ask if your transfering the car or renewing the registration at the smog station.

That makes sense. So I guess when you smog for transfer, it doesn't reset the 2 year cycle, as it still continues on. I was just under the impression that once u smog for transfer, from THAT smog begins a new 2 year cycle. I guess I was wrong. lol.
