Default Ground control/ koni yellow assembly

I got a set of yellows/gc's second hand but they were assembled with bowls for lowering springs as a spacer to hold the shock in place and a metal spacer up to to secure the coilover.

My problem with this is the bowl cuts out a significant amount of threads and I want my yellows to have optimum lowering capabilities. I found this picture where it seems the metal spacer is above the retainer clip on the body of the shock

but gettting that spacer that far down blows my mind.. I have to hammer it to even begin to get it on, and it doesnt move more then a quarter of an inch.

This is what im workin with... I see the lip for the metal spacer but dont know what else to do.. I watched fast and furious 1 to 4 and vin diseal didnt help me one bit.

The second pic is what my coilovers look like. Your saying the black spacer will not slide down on the shock at all? Does you black spacer have a lip machined in it that will go over the circlip on the shock? Can you post a pic of both sides of the black spacer?

Upon further inspection you are right and I never noticed the lip on the black spacer, I was too stumped as too what the hell the second picture was used for

originally the circlip was broken and called koni explaining my problem. They were nice and awesome enough to just send me replacement clips as well as what you see in picture two. Still the black spacer doesnt want to go down... Maybe coating everything in oil and using vice grips/channel locks as wide as the spacer to use as a hitting point with a hammer? This would secure the bottom half but is the top half supposed to be able to move back and forth? Thank you so far cruizinmax... heres what my fronts look like with the black spacers up top

the entire sleeve is sturdy, and not having the 'seemless' look doesnt bother me because whatever spacer he used for the bottom half doesnt cut into my lowering threads like the backs did

Don't use the little gold ring that your holding. Only the circlip that is on the shock in your 2nd pic. Just make sure everything is really clean and make sure the groove on the black spacer is down as that captures the circlip on the shock. You could also try to heat up the black spacer a bit if the fit is still tight, just make sure not to heat up the shock.

Upon looking at the last pic the coilover sleeve is supposed to sit on top of the black spacer and the sleeve fits over it. The weight of the car is supported by the circlip on the shock, then the black spacer and the coilover sleeve fits over it. It appears the red sleeve is on upside down.

Ill go take a picture of mine.

thats really weird. i was always under the impression that GC had a specific set of sleeves to work with the koni shocks. and that the sleeve barely fit over the shock body and sat directly on the koni circlip. thats how it was on my konis.

I looked into it and came to the conclusion that there are two types: GSRCRXsi's type, and types like cruizinmax and mine. Turns out the entire setup was upsided-down and there was even cable under one of the top hats (for some reason, maybe a rigged extended top hat?) The top hat seemed fine except for the busing under the cable was all effed, so I just ended up reusing mine. hahaha either way their on, my ride height still needs to be adjusted since my rear LCAS are a little above horizontal.. hahahaha

There are a Koni specific GC set now. The old ones had the black adapter. The new ones are slightly better due to the sleeve diameter is smaller and doesn't have the problem with the spring rubbing on them at some ride heights..
