Default Ground Wiring Help

Alright so i am thinking about purchasing a ground wireing kit off of ebay for my 1998 v6 Accord. The only thing is that i am not sure on how to install this and where to run the wires. There are two kits that i saw on ebay and i was wondering which would be better / easier to install.

8 Gauge Wire Kit

10mm Wire Kit

These are some of the locations i have seen so far. What i am wondering is which locations would give me the best improvements. Also how would i run the wires to and from these locations?

1. the passenger side fender near the windshield washer fluid
2. a bracket right behind the power steering pulley
3. the front cylinder head below the PCV pipe
4. the transmission
5. the negative battery terminal
6. the stock grounding point behind the driver's side headlight

Those are 6 locations and one kit comes with 7 wires and the other only 4.

Why are you wasting money on this? You really want isolated grounds to the chassis. That thing connects them all to the battery at the terminal. You will probably pick up some noise/feedback if you do that. If your factory grounds are in good condition, you will not see an advantage.

Well i read on v6p that there are proven horsepower gains and better sound for an aftermarket radio with this upgrade. Also i heard that this is what you need to do to fix the headlight dimming problum.

Post a link.

First, I highly doubt someone did before and after dyno pulls after adding this part. I f they didn't, then the hp gains are not proven. A butt dyno is not accurate.

Second, a properly grounded stereo will not give feedback. Having grounds too close to each other will actually create feedback, which will give you the whining sound in your speakers

Third, the headlight dimming is typically caused by big draw from a big amplifier. There is ONLY one way to counteract this - A high output alternator.

This info comes from 15 years of car audio experience. Spend the money if you want, I'm just trying to help you out.

It has been tested by import tuner. They installed a kit on a Honda Fit and saw a 2WHP gain over the previous run.

2 hp can be attributed to so many different things it shouldn't even be considered a difference. A few degrees cooler ambient temps could add 2 hp. The engine being colder for the 2nd dyno run could add 2 hp.

technically the engine is still hot considering install time was less than 10 minutes. And they dont just do 1 run (atleast I'm pretty sure).

Honda Fit Ground Kit Is this the tech article you are referring to? If so, read it. You clearly didn't the first time. The MUFFLER gave a 2 hp increase.

And I quote - "and although the Circle Earth kit increased power slightly, actual gains are minimal on such newer vehicles."

Like I said, waste your money if you want. But know that it is just a engine dress up. Will do nothing for performance, and will probably introduce more noise into the electrical system by having a common grounding point-the battery.

BTW, they drove the vehicle to the dyno facility in the L.A. area. Sitting in traffic is a good way to heat soak a vehicle. That would cause a lower power first dyno pull. They then allowed the Fit to sit for 30 mins before the other runs. That would give a cooler engine on subsequent runs.

well w/e. i still advise the OP to not buy one. I had one and i had issues with it after a few months. The only reason I bought it was because it was cheaper than a new grounding wire. But after it broke, I just put a new grounding wire.

I wouldn't waste my money on that. It'll just bring you more headaches as time goes by. My car runs healthy and strong with no ground wire kits.

OP, If you want to increase the effectiveness of your electrical systems grounds. I would suggest servicing the existing ground points on your car. Clean all of the contacts, remove any corrosion or rust. Replace any corroded, worn or broken ground wires.

It actually seemed as though you were edging the OP towards buying one. That was up until you were shown proof that these systems don't do shyte! The best part was that it was stated in the article that you quoted. Sorry, I had to poke fun....lol

I'm surprised that they warrantied the self sabotage of an electrical control unit. You must have lied to the dealership about your installation of a POS grounding kit.....lol for getting away with it!

Its a poven fact that it can add horsepower and torque. On the 350Z it gave the car 17ft pounds of torque. ON A DYNO!!!! I would not do the ebay kit though, I bought one. It was poorly made. I will be getting an HKS circle earth kit.

And that was on a what? Nissan 350z. Who was doing the test, probably the company selling the snake oil?

I highly doubt that if Import Tuner was unable to get 17lbft of tq on their test Honda that the OP will get that out of his ether.

Hey if you believe that. I'll sell you one of my chipped and tuned OBD1 ECUs that will make 30whp & 30wtq on your stock engine........

Seriously a good grounded electrical system is better than one that was engineered to use the least amount of wire possible. I have felt a difference on my 91 Civic. The engine ran smoother!!! It was dyno tested by a magazine. I can't remember which one. IT JUST WORKS DAMMIT PERIOD.

Where are all these extra grounding points that are required for a "good grounded electrical system"?

no lol. I said mine only lasted a few months. I didn't notice any difference, but I didnt expect to. I dont think that even if it gave me 1HP that i would be able to feel it.

Even 5hp would be negligible in a but dyno'd daily driver.

well im pretty sure 1HP is less than 5HP. But my car is turbo anyways. So i doubt I would feel 1HP or 5HP.

Or a properly charged and installed capacitor........

People that design their systems correctly won't run into issues.

I agree, turbo or N/A, I doubt anyone would feel 1-5hp, that is what I was saying about the butt dyno

Like my Auto Tech instructor said, even its hard to feel a 30whp gain on a car. Lol.

A cap will help to a degree. If you have a big draw to a cap, it still needs to pull from the battery/charging system to refill. This will also dim your lights. But, I digress....

WHY ISN'T THIS THREAD DONE YET?!?

A properly functioning grounding system will see no advantage by adding a "grounding kit", regardless of the manufacturer.

Prove me wrong. Show me a controlled setting with a baseline run and discernible improvement after adding a kit. If you can't, then stop being a mouthpiece for companies selling worthless junk. HKS included.

Not sure if you're pointing that at me - I never said they worked

I have seen better results with doing the "Big 3" and replacing old/crap ground wires with newer ones for the battery, alt, and something else (forgot.) The kits on eBay are definitely not going to help drastically. Most of the results are probably a placebo effect - similar to crappy strut bars, etc.

Good write up on Big 3 - http://www.the12volt.com/installbay/...TID~73496~PN~1
