What engine would be best for racing my 96 honda dx?
Im wondering what kind of engine would be best for my 96 civic dx.(for racing of course) and im also wondering if my aftermarket parts (intake exhaust headers ignition coild and dist. cap) will fit on this new engine?
Depends on your goal bro.
I believe you need to google.
B swaps and K swaps
B swap is probably more appropriate
considering there is a bible on how-to's and
more aftermarket parts for it than your original motor

There is such a plethora of information on this. There's no easy answer because "best" can mean different things for different people. Reliability (in my opinion) is not an issue with any honda engine as they are all 250k+ engines. If you're looking for speed and good aftermarket support at a decent price then your best bet is a B series specifically a b16 as the swaps can be had for a good price. If you're looking for a bit more bang and have the extra money, bump up to the b18c (b18c5 if you have the money, otherwise b18c1). This swap will require a bit of technical know-how but overall not too difficult if you're mechanically inclined.
If you're looking for speed and future support, or just want the best of the best and price isn't an issue you can go K series. BE PREPARED TO OPEN YOUR WALLET WIDE!!! I don't recommend this. You can get a used civic with a k20 for about the same price as a K swap plus labor so in my opinion it's not worth it...but to each his own.
The search function is your friend. There is SOOOO much information on this question it's not even funny.

Why does everyone say k swaps are so expensive? I live in tm and can accord and crv k's all day for under $800.00 the k isn't as new as it once was and is fast becoming the motor to swap now a days. Yea the mounts and harnesses are a tad bit more, but not crazy so. You can have a 160/160 accord k24 swapped into a eg/ek for under $2000.00 compare this to a b16 deal from h motors and you see my point, plus the k has tons more potential than any b, period.
well lets say its more expensive than a B.
kpro is like $1,000.00 itself.
i could fund an entire B swap for my CR-X for that.
including the engine and trans

Yea and if ya bought hondata or a aem ems would be a extra $1000.00 on a b swap too, I dont understand your point. Only requirements for a non jdm k series ecu is a $100.00 immobilizer. And the accord k24a3 is like I said 160/160 on HP and torque so even stock it has more potential then the long touted b16, port and polish , I/h/e would put u right on up with a b18 and a k20a2 head so a k frank would be worlds more powerful for not much more than the cost of building a b frank with tons more power and more reliability to boot.
thanks alot guys did some research i think im gonna go w. a b series. am i looking at having to buy my a/m parts all over again or will they fit the new engine? i found mixed answers everywhere i looked.

theoretically you could do a budget V8 build lol. get a FWD 4.9L northstar from a 90's caddillac and you will have like 250 hp and like 300 torque. idk the actual numbers but then you could slap a turbo on that lol
yeah and then after my 9 second quarter mile ill go back and pick up the pieces of valve and oil pan laying on the track after the rod gets thrown... haha catty engines not the most reliable especially when theyre bullied
gotta admit tho that he'd be the coolest guy in the eg forums with a fwd v8 civic.
Do you want turbo or all motor? How much do you have to spend? Dude you need to help us out here before we can help you.

i do not believe you gave us your real intentions with what you meant by "race", do you wanna go track or do some fast 1/4's?. how much do you have to spend and how knowledgable are you. tell us these first and we all can help you out a bit more
I guess parts and labor price is relative, I could hit up hybrid rating and easily spend 2 or3 grand or I could just buy that totaled accord off Craigslist for a grand and have everything I need minus mounts and axles.
Well,, I'm no more than a hop skip and a jump away from you. I'm in smyrna. I haven't seen any good prices on k20's around here. If I ever do anything to mine it'll be a b20 with a b16b ported head with itr cams. I think that you would be good wiith that set up, but to each his own.
well, there are many types of racing, thats kinda general. drag, time attack, etc... dont think you need a new engine just to play on the track. plenty of people run stock honda motors with with suspension work and sticky tires... to be competitive is a different story. its all how YOU want your car to perform, where YOU want power. set a budget. D, B, H, K series. all have pros and cons. do more research so you can ask more direct questions and interpret H-T advise...
There was a k24a2 acura tsx motor in Smyrna on Craigslist just the other day with a painted green valve cover for $800.00 205/205 respectively. Can you find a b18c5 for that?
a B swap is cheaper than a K swap PERIOD
so a B or staying D is your most realistic swap
And look guy, im not putting the K on this unreachable
pedastool, high and mighty, simply implying there pricey and
a decent amount of work and money has to be put into them.
