car shakes when braking and going fast
My 95 accord shakes pretty badly when im going 70+ and when i brake at speeds around 40+. I havent had my wheels balanced or anything which I am going to do soon but I want to know if you think that will fix it. Also i have 195/65/15's.
its not going to be cheap your front rotors are pressed on it would be cheaper if there is enough metal to resurface the rotors with a oncar brake lathe and install new pads .
thank for the help, im gonna get the wheels balanced and rotated and see if that helps. Would a mechanic be able to tell me fairly easily what the problem is?
yea he could, if the problem isnt found after balancing and rotating the tires then it either a bent rim (which you can ask and have him check for that), rotors are bent, or your wheel bearings are bad

I just got new tires put on so i hope it helps, havent driven on the highway yet. and the guy said my rotors were on ok shape, could be resurfaced but could wait a good amount of time and be fine.
fyi do not tell them at 70+ speeds is when you notice the vibration. I know the shop i worked at would tell you right away we cannot verify fixed above 70. just tell them you need the wheels balanced and checked for excessive runout(if you think you have a bent rim or bad tire)
bad tires, broken belt can have excessive runout causing a misbalance that will also vibrate just like a bent rim.
i bought a brand new set of tires at discount tire and drove 400 miles to florida the next day. soon as i got on the interstate i noticed a heavy vibration but was already far enough i didnt wanna go back. they checked and ended up being 2 of the 4 tires were out of round causing the vibration.
good luck!

If your vibration is speed related then you have a wheel/tire issue. I had purchased a brand new set of tires when I bought my accord, but didn't get my wheels aligned until I would say four months after I bought the tires. My car would take off (hard steering pull) to the right when I let go of the wheel, the steering wandered, and I would get some very intense vibration right around 60 mph and only at that speed. I spent a good amount of time chasing demons in the suspension.
Bought new tires this last week. The vibration vanished, as did the pull. Car tracks straight as an arrow at 85.
As for your brake rotors (fun fact to know and tell: Warped rotors are not misshapen. Heat build up in the brakes, and hot spots form, when these hot spots reach above a certain temperature it alters the metallurgy of the rotor in localized areas. It becomes harder, so as the metal of the rotor wears away, you get high spots because they wear slower. But I digress)
Warped rotors, unless severely damaged will only usually rear their head under hard, high speed braking. When you are putting alot of pressure and heat on the braking system.

swap your tires around and see if the vibration changes you should be able to feel the difference with the bad tire/rim on the one side as opposed to the other....
I've had alignment and balancing do nothing and figure out it's the garbage reman axles from the car parts store! Caused vibration at speeds when accelerating and decelerating

one good way to determine where vibration is coming from...for me, is to feel the vibration(not like marky mark) with your feet and butt. if its in the rear you will feel it more in your butt (left cheek more coming from left and so on) feet same way. i used to do a lot of vibration issues in the dealership and this is the method i used...and yes definitely swap it around to see if it moves front to back or left to right. if not then you need to focus on the suspension where the vibration was felt!
rotors these days r pretty much a disposable thing, they r made from cheap metal and the more u machine them down the quicker u will need to machine them again because there is less thickness to disapate the heat as well as absorb the pressure of your breaks dont ever bother getting them machined NOT WORTH IT
to check if its the rear wheel or the front:
slightly apply the handbrake and see if you feel the vibrations. If you do then its the rear drums.
ONLY DO THE ABOVE IF YOUR REAR WHEELS ARE NOT DISK TYPE.
