Default zc reliability...?

ive been reading around the forums a little bit, just wanted to know what's up with this ZC reliability problem? i was actually thinking of getting one just because the cheapness and because they come in automatic (unlike the b16)

it also would cost less than rebuilding my current engine (which has 200k miles on it) - from what i know

My ZC seems pretty reliable. It does have its flaws, yes, but the only problem I have w/ mine right now is the hesitation problem. I believe this to be caused by clogged injectors, but I will know soon enough.

I haven't had any major problems (knock on wood) w/ mine yet...Just normal maintenance and making sure the turbo is okay.

Had my ZC for about 3 years. 2 years NA with 2 problems"Dizzy went bad, Valve cover leaking", 1 year boosted with no problems. Nothing serious yet. Just dont beat the crap out of it and you wont have a problem

I love my ZC, Ive only had minor problems with it, had it for 2 months now, came with the crx I bought.
btw If I'm not mistaken there were a few, rare, but a few b16's that came in automatic, you may wanna check with a few engine distributors

Thank you, lately I've been seeing new people making up their minds on what swap to do and they say stuff like "And a ZC is out of the question because they are horribly un-reliable" I'm sure a ZC that has had the common parts replaced when doing the swap is much more reliable then any other 12 year old engine on the road.

Just make sure you change all the appropriate parts before you install it and make sure you got it from a reputable source and I don't see why you should have a problem... it's the people that didn't do the common upgrades of the gaskets, hoses, etc... that are complaining of having bad ZC's... but remember folks, its a Honda engine, and like all the others, will last forever just as long as you do the proper maintenance to it.

It makes me laugh since the b16a1 is just as old as most ZC engines getting swapped in. It's a Honda engine girls and boys. I would think you would have a hard time getting a 12 year old chevy engine to run as well.
Careful there! I've got an original 1989 Chevy truck with the factory 350. Still runs strong (168K miles and counting), uses no oil, and I trust it for a cross country trip.

My ZC is plenty reliable too.

yeah but at 168K compare the maintanence bills to a 168K honda motor driven the same...
One alternator, one starter, no other major maintenance. Had to replace the D16A6 already Of course I DO REALIZE that it depends on how well the vehicle is cared for, the schmuck I bought my car from may not have been as adamant about maintenance as me.

i have a b20vtec i'm trying to sell so i can buy some sort of sedan, which will most likely be automatic.
different people have different needs.
i like to get in the car and go. and i like to hold a big fat drink while i drive. and to me both of which are easier to do in an automatic.

I've had my ZC for a while and haven't had a single problem with it. I don't know why people think that the ZC has low reliability.

zc is just as reliable as any other honda motor with the proper maintenance. before you swap in the motor, just make sure you replace the common parts that is a no-brainer when you are swapping in a 10+ years motor.

common things such as gaskets, seals, etc.

here's a website i referred to a lot when i was doing research on the zc motor.
http://dmoore.com/crx/zc.htm

even lists the part numbers, and places you can buy the parts. yes it will cost a little more than people have done their swaps, but at least you'll know its done right. you'll not regret it if you do the proper maintenance before taking it on as a daily driver.

thanks for all the comments, and the question about the automatic ...

this is a day to day car (using to get back and forth to work) not big on racing, but the fact is the engine in my car is entirely too slow - 90 HP HHAHAH and 200k miles (this worries me, even though it's still running strong)

Dude, you can do a B16 in your car... all you gotta do is get an Automatic B series tranny.... you could even B18C5 your car with an automatic LS tranny... there is no point in going all out, but I'm just letting you know.
