I purchased a lightly used VSS from a JDM importer near me, looks pretty much new, to replace my (what I thought to be faulty) VSS. I put the new one on drove down the street it was working and then it stopped working and my s light started flashing again and check engine light came on. I get Code 4 when counting the short S light blinks which is the VSS...

Now with the car off the ground and the VSS off the car, by spinning the front wheel I should see the key spin correct (I can't get the key to move). I'm kind of thinking I need a new gear and shaft, which I can get from the importer also, I'd like to take it out and make sure it's broken first though... Can anyone offer me any help????

I see one bolt holding the shaft inside the tranny, I can't seem to pull it out though....

 

The issue I was having initially was blinking "S" light and my check engine light on. No Speedo and the car would downshift funny. Put in the new used VSS it worked for maybe a km then stopped, drove back and it started working again then stopped...

From looking around the internet not to many people seem to have issues with the steering speed sensor under my particular model.... So maybe I got a bad used part. gonna try rebuilding one of them tonight.
